The Little Mermaid premiers on 16th February 2007 on Disney at 19h00I've hunted and searched the DSTV guides - even called the offices but no-one seems to be aware that the movie is to be screened this Friday. Nevertheless, Disney Channel has been advertising it for over a month, so it must be so AND I CANT WAIT!
Summary
Ariel is a beautiful mermaid, with the voice of an angel, who dreams of being on land
She spends most of her time collecting artifacts from shipwrecks and then discussing them with her trusty sea gull friend, Scuttle.
One night, during a terrible storm, Ariel rescues Prince Eric from his sinking ship. She takes him to shore and falls instantly in love with him, and while he lies unconscious on the beach she sings of her love for him. Although Eric cannot see her, he falls in love with her voice and vows to find her.
When Ariel’s father, King Tritan, finds out that she has fallen in love with a human, he destroys her whole collection of artifacts and forbids her to ever go the surface again.
Ariel is heartbroken and finds help from a very untrustworthy source, Ursula.
Ursula was banned from Triton’s kingdom and will try everything to get revenge, and what better way than to take his favorite daughter from him.
Ursula promises to give Ariel legs so that she may become human and in exchange she wants Ariel’s voice. One condition that Ursula stipulates, is that Ariel has exactly 3 days in which to get Prince Eric to kiss her, if not, Ariel’s soul will forever belong to Ursula.
With the help of her friends; Flounder, Sebastian & Scuttle, Ariel sets off on a musical adventure in search of love.
My View
The Little Mermaid is arguably one of the best animated movies that Disney has ever produced. In addition, it has an Oscar winning musical score that will have you singing and dancing away with the most adorable cast of characters.
Samuel E Wright is the voice that crusty Caribbean crustacean, Sebastian, and does a fantastic job on both Under the Sea and Kiss the Girl. Can you imagine what the movie would be like if they went with their original idea and cast Sebastian as a Brit?
I first saw this movie some 18 years ago, and have watched it over 100 times since. I can honestly say that I never tire of hearing that calypso band and falling in love with the characters over and over again.
The MusicTo prepare everyone for the Little Mermaid on Friday here are the music videos for Under the Sea and Kiss the girl. I have added the lyrics so that you can print it out and sing along. (I know you want to)
