I read this Sunday's issue of the Sunday World and I was on the floor with laughter. I know it was horrible of me to laugh at something as horrible as violence on a woman during a time when there are hundreds of campaigns against it but damn, sue me but I laughed!
Firstly, I got friends who are so hating on me for my addiction to that paper because they call it "trash" and say that everything there is based on speculation and not fact. My response to that is I'm sorry guys, I'm addicted to trash. Besides, there is a deteriorating column in there that I'm scheming to "take to new heights" one day.
Enough dreaming and back to Ribs n Ribs.
So according to the tabloid, Bula Music exec, Tshepo Nzimande gave sis Rebecca Malope a not so holy klap because Rebecca spent more time on stage than she was allocated?? Hayi maan, the things we fight over!!
What made me laugh about this whole thing was Rebecca's alleged response to the whole thing...
"Even Jesus Christ, the son of God, was assaulted. Who am I if I can’t face such things? I’m here to spread the word of God.”
I also believe in GOD but this was really unexpected....does she mean she gave him the other cheek like Jesus said?
Naturally, besides the several witnesses stated, Tshepo Nzimande is denying that he hit her...
“If I wanted to assault Rebecca, I would have done that when I was still her driver because she is disrespectful whenever she is drunk,” says Nzimande.
He dared Malope to go and lay a charge at the nearest police station.
“If I indeed assaulted her, why didn’t she report the matter to the police?” asks Nzimande. “Even Jesus Christ complained when he was assaulted.
“I think Rebecca is trying to use my name to promote her new album,” says the fuming Nzimande.
Okay, do you now understand why I laughed at all of this?? Damn, they are in the "preaching gospel business", can't they just act it out at least??
Shame, clearly Tshepo has always been looking for an opportunity to tell us about Rebecca's drinking and this gave him the perfect opportunity. Nx, to think I liked the guy back in the day when he was acting in Hlala Kwabafileyo with Zeb Matabane as his dad.
Ok, I've heard about Rebecca's "other life" from her former band members but damn, it's her life and she is doing a great job of keeping that away from us so it's time we started to mind our own business plus Tshepo makes it sound like he's an angel and given all the bad publicity he gets some times, he surely has some flaws somewhere.
I don't remember Rebecca standing in front of an audience and claiming that she does not drink/smoke/sin, we just assumed that she will not do any of those things because she "sings gospel" and is telling us she is a Christian.
Well, if you believe she shouldn't do any of those things, please just note that this is 2007 and we are on this earth to make money so here's how it should be:
- Watch Gospel Time, Get Blessed.
- Buy Her CD, get blessed,
- Go to her show, get blessed and if you wanna remain blessed then don't follow her home. Or to the parking lot, where she got the so called "chisa mpama".
Most importantly, Don't be her driver!!!
Before I shut up, guys, I know Rebecca "Queen Of Gospel" Malope's hair ain't none of my business but really it's 2007 and mama is still rocking the same Chicco Style she was rocking when she first started in the music industry "22 albums & 11 SAMA's" ago??????? Hawu come on Ribs. I'm not saying rock a weave but damn not a chicco!!!
Our new couple (bashelana snaaks maan), Ribs & Tshepo will be at the SAMA's on Saturday so if I spot them, I will report back on whether or not Ms Malope (wasn't she supposed to have been Mrs Something...by now?) has any visible scars.
SAMA SECRECY...
And while we are on the SAMA subject, can somebody please tell me why there is so much secrecy over who are the people that will be presenting the awards??
Besides the fact that Zubs, Proverb & Tumi (from Tumi & The Volume) are performing, the organizers are tight lipped about perfomers and presenters.
I mean it's not like telling us will stop those people from performing/presenting! If anything, it will build the excitement.
If I want to know something, I want to know so I tried to do a bit of digging as to what can be expected from the event on Saturday and not much info was forthcoming but I did find out a few things from my "friends" in the celeb circles.
- As you read from my interview with Kabelo, he is definitely going to be performing and we can expect to see his arbs and the cute Howza next to him!
- Siyabonga Ngwekazi is definitely gonna be presenting an award...he didn't want to confirm so he denied this but I don't care, my sources are very reliable *crosses fingers that it happens*.
This is something to look foward to especially coz I've been missing so many episodes of Street Journal. It's a long way before the show ends in June so I can still catch up.
- You know SAMA perfomances are always about artists collaborating etc so I hear Lesego, who's nominated for 3 awards is going to be perfoming his hit "AFRICA" and collaborating with Mafikizolo on stage. Can't wait!!!
Nhlanhla must just not do too many "IYOYOYOYOYO's on that smash hit, she might spoil it for some of us.
- From struggling with Zulu every morning (irritatingly so), DJ Sbu will be crossing over to English during rehearsals with Electro Muse because he is performing the end credits with this all gal group.
The group's music is a fusion of strings, synths, sample sounds and urban grooves ranging from electronika to dance and break beat and that mixed with DJ Sbu's hits? You know it's gonna rock!
If you've never heard of these ladies, well, they're like the female version of the Soweto String Quartet, only they have a sexier dress sense and they don't play old gospel hymns.
Their website, www.electro-muse.com is very funky and I skeem whoever did it for them should hook Kabelo up asap.
- Nonhle Thema will be covering the Red Carpet of this SABC 1 event for Channel O and I so digg Channel O for that.
Apparently Nonhle could not be asked to present an award because of the fact that she works for the opposition, MNET.
Well, I hope Proverb will thank his "Channel O" family when he goes to accept the Best Rap Album Award (or is it Hip Hop?).
Damn people, will it be too much to ask if I said , South African Music Awards time should be one of those times where we leave broadcasting politics alone and just embrace everything that is hott in the country?
Lastly, black people, stop emailing your votes for the SAMA Awards Best Song to me please!!! You are supposed to be sending them to ONE not me.
I really appreciate all the emails I get but damn, I know I'm gonna be managing Channel O soon but I don't work for them as yet so do not send me a letter asking me to pimp your Mzanzi ride, ok??? My 3 year old ride could use some pimping too you know!
LAST BREATH....
PENNY LEBYANE...
Being the curious thing that I am, I sent Penny an email asking her what she was doing at the Oscars' Red Carpet in LA coz sifunukwazi.
She responded to my mail but avoided the question in a beautiful way, such that I forgot what I had asked initially so ja, clearly someone has taught her the "skills of evasion".
She is going to the SAMA's though so I will hunt her down and try get an answer for you guys. I'm doing this for you Africa!!! (Guess who says that more than 10 times in her 20 minutes TV show? Clue: it's on DSTV, on Sundays, LOL).
LADUUUUMA!
I'm watching the showdown between the SABC & The PSL with so much interest. Basically the SABC want to be the official broadcaster of the games and PSL is keeping their options open and the other day Trevor Phillips was on Marawa's show and Dali Mpofu was so freaking mad at him. I laughed when he reminded Trevor that this was SA and not Britain....Eish, can't wait to see wha the outcome is. SABC upsets me at times but it would be sad if Supersport were to get the rights. So many people who don't have DSTV will lose out. Unless of course ETV stands a chance? We'll see. I have DSTV but I don't like the quality of ETV so I avoid watching it for that.
TO SUNDOWNS
From what I saw last night, it appears Sundowns are going to be the League Champions yet again so I guess it's not too early to say
"Well Done Boys, you've worked very hard for this and thanks for providing us with such entertaining football. Watching your games has been a pleasure.".
Gordon Igesund is breaking his own record huh? Love the man!!
Now, can somebody please email this to Patrice so he can give me a job there?
TO ORLANDO PIRATES:
Boys, we need to send you to a manners camp. What's with all this player stabbing another player with a knife story??
If you aren't fighting about one of you using Muti that only benefits him and makes the team to lose, some of you are going AWOL and end up playing for the reserve team??
What is going on in that circus?? Sathath' uformer coach and now y'all are going mad??
Pull yourselves together and stop with the nonsense.
If the story about Lelo Mbele being stabbed by one of his teammates is true then I give up on these youngsters!
TO KAIZER CHIEFS....
- Fire the Coach!!!
Oops, he only started last month....
- Fire the Manager!!!!
Oops, he's the MD's son....
- Fire the Players???
Damn, I can't believe we're so low on the log...we should be in the TOP 1dammit!!
My heart was so torn while watching the 2-0 trashing we got over the weekend :( I miss Mbesuma!!!
Enough of my ramblings! Happy Weekend to all my fabulous readers. Catch me on Monday for My Juice on the 2007 South African Music Awards!!! I'll be bringing the madness to you all the way from Sun City baby!
