The SABC1 mini-series When We Were Black scooped the television drama awards at the second annual South African Film and Television Academy awards (SAFTAs) on Saturday night, taking home seven awards including the most prestigious TV prize of all, Best TV Drama.

The four-part mini-series was created and directed by Khalo Matabane, who won the Golden Horn for Best Director, and was produced by Bornfree Media.

The Heartlines series of films and the corporate drama The Lab - both made by Curious Pictures - registered three wins apiece.

The biggest winner of the night in the TV categories, however, was the SABC3 soapie Isidingo, which won 10 of the 14 soapie awards, blitzing all its competitors.

SABC2's Muvhango won two awards and SABC1's Generations and e.tv's Scandal! won a single award each.

The comedy awards were evenly spread, with no runaway winners. M-Net's Laugh Out Loud won Best Comedy and two other awards, while Stokvel picked up three awards as well.

Stokvel star James Ngcobo won Best Actor in a Comedy for the second year running, for his role as Mojo Khumalo.

Below is an abridged list of award winners, along with the nominees in each category (winners are marked in bold) - for the full list of all award winners please visit the SAFTAs 2007 show page.

Congratulation to the Isidingo team... I don't think it's a suprise they did so well - Then what is with the story that Generations is the no 1 soapie in SA?

Lemon_Lite, Generations may not be the 'best' soapy in SA (how would you quantify that anyway?) but it has the most viewers, so therefor it would make most sense that they get the most votes.

the country has gone MANTOS, like in the tv ad... generations winning the best soap was crazy.... and to think the public voted for this crap of a series.
