So the movie starts with a lost big-boned young man Big Mike, real name Michael Oher, played by Quinton Aaron, sleeping at a friend’s house for various reasons you find out later.
He is homeless, wears the same set of clothes every single day… So the friend’s father decides to hook him up with a scholarship at a posh Christian school. He goes along with his friend as the football coach Burt Cotton (Ray McKinnon) sees the possibilities and somehow gets him a sports scholarship.
As we all know, Sandra Bullock, walked away with the
Best Actress Oscar this past Sunday for her role as Leigh Ann Touhy who takes in Big mike into her home and family.
Leigh Ann and husband Sean (Tim McGraw) already have 2 children - S.J (Jae Head) and Collins (Lily Collins) and are a well-to-do couple who consider themselves a Christian family and face the wrath of the community when they make some decisions that some people wouldn’t even consider.
As most real life movies go, they pull at your heart-strings and make you see how “remarkable” some people are as they overcome a challenge or get given an opportunity. This is no different. Most of the movie, you can kind of predict what will happen next. It uses the same formula that other movies such as
Finding forrester, Freedom Writers, ,Dangerous minds, etc have used. It is based on a real life story, I know, BUT I feel they could have done something different somewhere.
When I watched this movie, I was moved.I loved the subtle humour, the christian messages and how Sandra was not the typical too rich mother who just wanted to go shopping and have tea with his friends. It was a far cry from what we see in the
Divas and Daughters on TSN. I will give the movie 3/5…
The movie starts at Nu-Metro on 12 March 2010
