Muvhango changes face: the Mulaudzis

Happy Friday!!

Lets‘s send a huge 'thank you' to the writers at Muvhango for bringing us a daily dose of real drama with seriously catchy and riveting storylines. Yes, y’all... Muvhango has transformed. There isn’t any more of those stories that were centred around the big city Joburg and the sophisticated people of the city....but based on some small misunderstandings of a small obscure village in the outskirts of Venda. hehehe

If you have not been watching Muvhango lately you definitely aren’t “in-with-the-times”. Royal wives these days can pronounce... and spell the word ‘divorce’ and it’s not odd to hear the word “babe” thrown here and there in the royal village(laawwwd, I go into cringe mode everytime Sundani says this to Bafhuwi).

As if the change of dymnamics in the village is not enough, Muvhango has taken Meme out of Thandaza's life and given her her own. One of their storylines that is sooo trending in the Southern hemisphere at this point is the relationship between Meme and KK. These two speak of love now and again but there is none evident between them. KK has been set to destroy Meme from the first day he looked at her like more than just a colleague and a co-shareholder.  he found a strong woman in her but he has thrown insults at her, taken over her life, made her feel worthless, taken her confidence and reduced her to a shaky little girl.

Meme said something this week that really made me feel even more sorry for her. Something that sounded like: “Physical abuse is better because the scars heal over time. But when someone abuses your emotions, it eats away at you over time”. I actually got a lump on my throat when I heard her say that. It is soooo true.

A closer look at the man that is KK:

muvhango kk

Mostly it is believed that guys who put their women down are normally doing it to cover up for something that they, themselves, lack – in most cases, they are said to have a small totolozi. I suppose these are guys who either suffer from premature ejaculation of delayed erection. So, because the guy would know that his woman knows about his predicament... and he knows there is no way she can be happy about it, he decides to attack her before she attacks him.  It could be a myth, but it makes sense. Is this what our KK could be battling with? Or is he just having issues with the way he looks?

He has made Meme hate herself. He first made he wear a hideous wig or whatever that thing is on her head, then took her with to Venda and as soon as they were back he ordered her to change the way she dresses. Basically she has to cover up everything and anything that looks like flesh and never ever wear anything that looks like it  had the potential to be tight. he deliberately killed the stylish, strong-willed, can-do-anything Meme, and gave birth to a blank woman who looks like she has just got off Shosholoza Meyl.

She obliged to all the changes in her body and her life. Why? Because she believed he loved her and wanted to spend a lifetime with her - something she has only heard said to other girls.

The woman that is Meme:

muvhango meme

Meme has had many failed relationships. With many of these, the men would soon leave her for other women(read Thandaza).... or they’d just not be interested. She is getting old and lonely... and she also has a point to prove to her mother, to Thandaza, and to the rest of the Thate clan. Also, I don’t think she has ever known her father, and if there is one thing that scarred her for life it was the relationship she had with Ndalamo, the blacksheep of Thate. That was the relationship that she had thought would be for life but once more she was misled and betrayed. Though the guy married her and made her pregnant, the Venda family swore never to accept her, and eventually she even lost the pregnancy.

This scenario here forms a very large part of why she has let herself be mishandled by a man as ruthless as KK Mulaudzi. When KK introduced her to his family, they accepted her and that was something she had never experienced before. She then turned KK into a god, a knight in shining armour – who had come to save her from her miserable life where no one wanted her. With KK she felt like finally, she belonged somewhere.

I want to go on and on about how sad this case is and how real it actually is, but i think I’d rather let the readers comment and share their experiences. I believe that many people can see themselves in this relationship - playing either role.

I don't think guys who are KK come across as such. I think a KK guy  could be just a sweet boyfriend who, according to him, loves his woman but just wants her to live in his terms. He probably has a perfect picture of how he wants them to be in the future - he just forgets the one important thing - that the woman is also a person and has her own brain. That's all.

And the Meme kinda girl is probably just someone who wants to be happy. She has seen other people get happy around her and when KK comes along, he points out to all her character traits as the reasons she's not happy. Now, because she has always had an issue with being unhappy, everything KK says seems to be the Q'uran. Only to realise later that her real identity has been lost somewhere in between the pages of this Q'uran and it is not helping her in any way, either.

It will be very interesting to see how this story will unfold. I saw the July Teasers promising some more drama. It would be nice to see  her gain confidence and finally stand up to him.

I’d just like to propose a toast to the Muvhango team for work done well. It is clear that the recent changes that they made on their staff have produced tremendous results. The ratings speak for themselves.
Also these days everyone who walks the set of Muvhango is  surely earning their salary. There are no longer small roles while the big ones ooThandaza noBafhuwi are getting all the airtime, and have the smaller roles discussing them anyway. That was not good TV, I am glad they have learnt their lesson and have changed gears. Even Pearl these days does more than just stand behind the reception desk... and listen to those boring by-the-elevator conversations. hihihi. Serious, these days we only see the elevator like, once a week. Phela everything used to happen around that elevator.

The actors are doing some pretty good acting too. Meme and KK are soooo believable. In fact, in all honesty, this Meme-KK storyline has made the Khethiwe-Dumisani abuse storyline on Generations look like some kindergarten play...which is why I would like to suggest that Media24 gives Muvhango the Drum gig. We want to see Muvhango faces overtaking all the cover stories from now on. They deserve it.. and they would definitely look good on those covers. I've been to their FB page and the pictures from the recent photo-shoot are breathtaking. Muvhango has some very beautiful people - both boys and girls.

Futhi SABC2 should now move Muvhango to the 8pm spot. So that it will be clear what real competition is. hihihi

Standing Ovation!

NOTE TO MUVHANGO:
By the way, please do update your website. You might have forgotten that you did approach Good Kid New Media to do a site for you..yes.. it was ten years ago, i see.. the main picture still has Ndalamo and mam'Cathy on it.

Carino well written piece my gal, WOW

This is so true and am speaking frm experience.

my ex had a small number and sufferd frm ED (erectile dysfunction) and Premature Ejaculation evn when the totos was erect it wasn't firm. once saw some viagra in his drawer.

sweet guy very romantic, the type that wld buy u flowers when sick and cook 4 u.

i realized i was loosing myself in the relationship, i ws becoming docile.

he wld put me down in a very subtle manner, tell his friends am pregnant when I wasnt and they'll congratulate him in front of me.

sometyms he wld get me drunk nd hav sex with me when am in that state more lyk rape & will whisper things lyk he's enjying this thinkin i cant hear him cos am drunk.

I walked out after some drama of my own of course, looking back I realised i was being abused emotionally

The other storyline i'm enjoying at the moment is Meiki and Neo... I just love what's going on between the two.

Again i have to give it to the script writers of muvhango, i love the use of vernacular, I'm sotho and am enjoying how the Mokwenas and Neo are speaking sotho, and i think is the case with other languages as well.   Unlike other soapies..yhuu

Mara why does Ranthumeng always refer to Thandaza as "Mosadi waka"  -  I think Ranthu also has issues. he seems to have a jealous strak as well. ( he might not be an abuser like KK, but there is something there ).

Thanks Carino, great read.

Welllllllllllllll
Second to isidingo i  wonder about Muvhango if i havent watched for a while. But im still not com pletely sold, i watch 15 minutes now.
and it’s not odd to hear the word “babe” thrown here and there in the royal village .....reealy, Sundani calls bafhuwi "babe"..."cringing at the thought"..Jesus!!!

The abuse story:....hope the message is going through, thats some real staff right there. But ne, the presentation cracks me sometimes, KK wa tshegisha...i read somewhere up there that typically abusers wouldnt be OVERTLY as evil as KK is, they are smooth operators, good with words, charming, KK is not inviting at all.Or maybe i dont know this reality much.

And please allow me to just add kancaaaaaane my gripe with the mujango presentation in general. I dont think its the acting thats only (most of it is bad)..but i think the writters missmatch the dialogue and emotions combination. Staff usually doesnt add up, words usually arent believably supprted by the actors' emotions.
For instance:
Bafhuwi takes Pfuluwani's sister as his third wife. Yes pfuluwani is expected to be angry about the whole thing, to feel betrayed first because bafhuwi cheated he ddnt consult with them , and secondly because thats her younger sister. Yes in general bafhuwi is allowed to marry many wives so we dont expect him to be remorsefull about taking another wife. But we expect him to be renoursefull about cheating because it goes againts the rules, and to be remoursefull to Pfulu because thats her sister. BUT NOOOO...not this bafhuwi, he acts like Pfuluwani is actions and response to the situation he created is UNBECOMING and she must be Called to order, there is quite nothing AT ALL wrong with what he is doing. Yet he is supposed to be the All-wise and All emotionally intelligent. The response that would make sesne to me would simply be that 1. Bafhuwi is not sorry he is taking another wife but 2. He is renmoursefull about the cheating and taking pfulu's sister. discussions happen so that everyone invcolved can pave a way forward.
Unless maybe the purpose of the soapy is to protray bafhuwi as a not so wise person?...but then doesnt that take from the cultural awareness the show is aiming for.

many emotions-dialogue mismatches happened and continue to happen. During the Thandaza and Ranthu wedding, the whole thing with Pheko, Thandaza and the sms and call she gave him....something just wasnt convincing there....

Im no writter or producer or director, i just love good tv, looove good films and i hope someone has seen what im saying..(ITS very oofputting), hope someone can ndo something about this coz its a legitimate concern from a potential fan. But then maybe i realy need to stop watching all this tv...goodness!

Otherwise...a Bbig up to the Muvhango writters, you are on to something.

Well, Muvhango is finally waking up from emaqandeni. But shame pity they are doing it with stories that have been so overdone. Every soap, every drama has done the abuse storyline. Khethiwe and Dumisani did it and I think better than Meme and KK, I agree with the person saying KK is exxaggerated, abusers are very smooth not OVERT. Writers should have been subtle. People are haters, say Generations is dying when they are the first ones who did this, they even went a step further did a responsible thing to involve men's counselling - something no one in SA TV has done. Dumisani went through Sonke Gender Justice, this showed other abusive men that they can get help. Now that's innovative story telling to me. So, if you want to compare, don't even try and say Muvhango is doing this better - they are followers. But I will congratulate them for finally getting out of the 1800s and living in the 21st century. Hoorah! And the triangle in the Chief's house has also been so overdone by other soapies, so overdone, so overdone - I can't say it enough. So, I'm not saying don't njoy Muvhango, but all I'm saying, don't give them credit like they've come up with something new, they are just following trends, not setting them. Generations on the other hand is a trendsetter. I won't be surprised to see a female DJ on Muvhango soon now that Generations has done it
