So the new season of The Voice is in full song on SABC3, with double episodes for the first time. The first double bill aired on Wednesday night (29 February) and continues for the Blind Auditions so that we get to see the episodes in the same format they've been airing in the US.
As happened with Season 1, the auditioning voices are much better than those on American Idol and X Factor - obviously the reason The Voice has quickly become the most popular show in America.
My best is how perfectly-named the audition phase is because one thing nobody wants is the blindness of being one of the few who
none of the judges turn around for. Even more blind is when the judges make up an unconvincing excuse for their lack of interest and pretend that there's hope for the wannabe - when you know that there
definitely isn't.
The judges' true feelings come out in those first moments of their reactions and reveal who we'll be seeing a lot of in the future. The two who've immediately stood out for me as being Most Original so far are Lindsey Pavao and Angel Taylor, who's no stranger to the music industry nor reality TV.
Turns out Angel's sister
Ebony was a schmodel on the fifth cycle of
America's Next Top Model ...
"Does my cleavage look big in this?"
#AlsoBlind ... she was the second contestant to be whacked from the season. According to an
ANTM fan blog, she went on pursue a modelling career and she's attempting a music one too.
Angel's clearly the one with better pipes because of what we saw during her audition, and also, she released an album titled Love Travels on iTunes in 2009. She released it through Columbia Records and from the sounds of the comments about it, it got positive reviews.
She's also got connections in the music industry because she's toured with various artists, including Adele. According to an
interview with her on
Singersroom.com, she's also written a song for Toni Braxton.
A lot happened for her in 2009 and then it seems things got quieter so she's obviously entered the show to land the big break she's been aiming for.
Lindsey seems to have had a lot less experience in contrast. She's featured in a single on SoundCloud callled
Your Eyes and she has 551 friends on her
MySpace profile.
The only problem: her hair. I know Christina thought the opposite but she's wrong. I can't stand that lopsided look - it makes me feel very uncomfortable, as if too much time's been wasted on growing the long part. Also, she's got the sort of face that's much better suited to a short crop all round.
Here's a vid of each of their auditions (I can hardly make it out of Angel's alive 'cos of
Adele):
