Royalty Soapie Awards founder, Generations star Winnie Modise.
isiBaya stole the show on Saturday night (8 March) at the first Royalty Soapie Awards. The telenovela-turned-soapie won 10 of the new award categories, hot on the heels of it's renewal on Mzansi Magic.
Thembi Nyandeni who won Oustanding Lead Actress for her role as Mkabayi Zungu on isiBaya.
While isiBaya steamed up the ceremony, SABC1 failed to come to the party. The ceremony was supposed to air on SABC1 on Sunday night but ended up a no-show after a fiasco between the award organisers and SABC1. Last week organisers claimed that they had approval for the broadcast while SABC1 claimed that the broadcast was never confirmed.
To cut a long story short, the ceremony will (hopefully) be airing as a special, sometime in the unspecified future. According to SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago: “A pre-packaged special will be broadcast on SABC1 on a date to be announced,”
Whether or not this happens remains to be seen because SABC1's Generations didn't win a thing. Will the channel be gracious enough to air the ceremony despite this? Time will tell.
