Muvhango is now kissing passionately, thanks to the lifted veil on the kissing embargo. Star-crossed lovers Pheko and Thandaza perfected the kiss in one take.
On the episode of Monday 4 March, Muvhango viewers were rather shocked to watch a passionate kiss between star-crossed lovers Thandaza and Pheko while some of us marvelled that finally our favourite couple has now found each other. Shame no offence to Ranthumeng but we think Thandaza and Pheko belong together. Or perhaps we are (just as Pheko and Thandaza are) fascinated by the fact that Pheko and Thandaza can never be together and the idea of them being together makes it all the more interesting.
Those who do not watch Muvhango, we shall give some little background to this. About eight years ago, Thandaza and Pheko met and fell in love but family politics and technicalities prevented them from being together. After that, the pair moved on as Thandaza married her late husband’s cousin (read family customs and tradition) while Pheko dated Meiki. When Thandaza divorced Ndalamo, she hoped to reunite things with Pheko but Pheko had a stint with Meiki and things didn’t work out. Meiki claimed to be pregnant with his child then he discovered she was lying, he ran straight to Thandaza’s arms.
Then voila, Pheko proposed to Thandaza. Instead of a happily-ever-after, Meme blackmailed Pheko at work resulting in Thandaza calling the engagement off. She moved on – met and fell in love with Ranthumeng and married him, though she knows Pheko is her soul mate.
Pheko has been a constant threat on his cousin Ranthumeng’s side though Ranthumeng doesn’t feel threatened by Pheko whereas he should if he knew what we know.
Pheko is now of course engaged to Muvhango’s superb*****tch Meme and Thandaza is happily married, or so you thought!
In the episode of 4 March, Pheko confessed his undying love to Thandaza and the pair embraced resulting in him planting a passionate kiss on Thandaza’s lips and she kissed him back – a passionate kiss we have never seen before on family show Muvhango. And of course, Thandaza will tell her hubby she was working late and we know what working late refers to, right!
Though this isn’t the first time we are seeing a kiss on Muvhango, we were rather puzzled that respected veteran actress Sindi Dlathu kissed on screen. One thinks she is one of those actresses who would refuse to film a kissing scene especially because she told the True Love magazine of March 2013 how much she respects her family and all that bluh bluh. But my sources tell me Sindi is a professional and takes her job very seriously and give it nothing but her all. “When the writers came up with the story, they spoke to Sindi about it and she trusts the writing team not to misrepresent both her and the character she plays,” says my deep throat.
“The writers obviously discussed this in details with her and asked for her opinion and she was asked to approve the final script and she didn’t have any problem because the story serves the show well. She saw the script as part of her work and she has a great relationship with the writers so it wasn’t a problem at all,” says my source who prefers to remain anonymous when I stated I doubted Sindi would agree to this. “When the kissing scene was filmed, the director on set was very considerate and with actors like Rapulana Seiphemo [Pheko] and Sindi, they just perfected the scene in one take as it was what the director wanted so there should not be those uncomfortable moments on set. Yeap, they perfected it all in one take and it was done,” says my source.
And of course, one wonders if this has anything to do with increasing the show’s ARs. “If you think that was a shocker, wait until you see what the has in store for viewers in the upcoming days, weeks and months.” So as it appears, Muvhango is set to shock the living daylight out of viewers.
One thing I know for sure is that the kiss will have undesired consequences for everyone close to Thandaza.
