Can I just say that last week Saturday, the whole of Johannesburg came out to play, with half the people heading to the FNB stadium for the Carling Black Label Soweto Derby and the other half headed to Monte Casino. Jeeez… The traffic was such a nightmare... On a Saturday evening nogal. I have never *SMH*
Ok, now that the venting is out of the way... let's move on to the You Spectacular.
It was my first time attending the You Spectacular Awards and I didn’t realize that it was that huge. “Huge” in a sense that it was my first time seeing Mzansi’s A-listers all in one venue. I don't know how the organizers managed to drag them all out but whatever they did ... worked. Big Ups to You for pulling a star-studded do.
However, I was rather disappointed that with such a glitzy affair, the reception didn't quite meet the glam. After the awards ceremony, the guests were left standing around as there was no seating arranged. Cummon You, people were wearing "killer" heels, how can you expect them to stand for that long? Then we were told there's an after-party, but no one knew where it was until later on when it turned out that where we were standing was the actual after-party venue... Really?
Enough moaning ...
What stood out for me was the Production. It was rockas. Next time please organise that the awards be televised live because they were that great.
The Host for the evening was the ever-so-bubbly Jeannie D. What an incredible soul. During her dance routing she had a wardrobe malfunction and almost had a "booby moment"
(her boob almost popped out). It was bad. She was so uncomfortable during the routine it ended up looking like a hot mess. But ... later on she explained that she was stiff due to the drama that was about to unfold in her dress department. Overall she did a stellar job. Mara Jeannie, so many awards, every year? Give other children a chance. lol
Miss Loliwe aka Zahara looked immaculate. Actually, It's the first time I've seen her looking this good. What's your secret gal?
I don't care who says what, but jealous down *claps hands* Bonang was made for the entertainment industry. Everything about her is simply on point. She was vivaciously sexy when she performed her dance routine and her outfits screamed "GLAM'' as the talented lady strutted her stuff. Pity, You or the fans didn't think so, as she lost in both categories she was nominated in. I think she deserved at least one award ...
Here's another one I feel was cheated: Vusi Kunene. I love Shona Ferguson and all, but I believe that Vusi Kunene should have gotten that award. This man is talent personified. Anywhoo... He was Kgomotso Christopher's date. Shu, this woman was right, she's too skinny. Someone help her gain weight toe. Oh... but she's not all skin and bones though, I caught a sight of her African reverse. #NoHomo
Whilst we are on the subject of weighty issues. My plus one pointed out that Shashi Naidoo has gained a bit of weight. Considering how thin she was, she actually looks better now that she's put on those kilos.
I was surprised to see the Parlotones at the do. I haven't seen or heard about them in such a long time, I thought they pulled a Trevor Noah on us and unofficially moved abroad. That was a deserving win boys.
Oh, you should have heard how Tamara Dey did justice to the Parlotones' song when she performed a medley of songs of all the Best Artist nominees. I think Parlotones should consider doing a collab with her, if they haven't already done so. Here, she's with Emmanuel Castis and the guy I've never seen, Tyrone Keogh.
Excuse my ignorance but wasn't Leanne Manas preggies last year? Or am I losing my mind? I haven't watched Morning Live in years, so I've kinda lost touch with her side of the world. She walked away with the Best Presenter Award after she revealed to us that she was gonna pop at any given time. Ooooh ... brave woman.
Moshidi Motshegwa was so emotional after winning the Best Actress award. It would have been like the BBA Finale scene if she didn't win this award. Now Mzansi knows and has confirmed that she's a superb actress. I tried to remember how long Motshidi has been in this industry for and unfortunately my aging mind can't think that far back. But ... she's been in the industry for looooong and is only recognised now. I didn't like her outfit though. It just looks wrong.
When The Wild was announced as the winning soapie, Minenhle hurried up the stage with the rest of the crew in tow and she accepted the award on behalf of the cast. People in the audience were murmuring about why she accepted the award when she wasn't that prominent on The Wild.
A certain celeb even mentioned that it's like calling the cast of Generations on stage and allowing an extra to collect the award. Tjo! Well, I'm not a fan of soapies and I've never watched The Wild, so it doesn't really matter to me. I was just taken aback by her outfit. I'm not sure how I view it, is it a hit or miss? Gotta say Itumeleng is very lucky because this chickita is a beauty.
Leopard/cheetah print was trending that night. Not only was AKA dressed in it, so was I, my plus one and many other guests at the function. How original were we? *rolls eyes* He seems to have left immediately after the show. Shame, I hope he didn't miss out on the jewelery they gave to the nominees.
And here's the guy people were asking about. After winning an award, heads turned as people tried to establish who he was or what his claim to fame was. All I knew was that I once saw him on Isidingo, whilst I was chilling with my mother. After much digging, I found out that his name is Ashish Gangapersad. Not sure if this is his wife or fiancee, but either way they are an item. Stay Away ladies. lol
Actually, I didn't know half the "personalities" there. Even some of the nominees and presenters were foreign to my eyes. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Even a 5FM dj echoed the same sentiments. Phew!
Thanks to You for inviting TVSA to the do. We'll be waiting for next year's invite. *wink*
