The MTV Africa Music Awards happened in Durbs on Saturday night (7 June) and I was in the thick of the action for us. The evening started with the wildest red carpet I've experienced.
It was trippy because when TVSA first started in 2006 red carpet's were a very different experience. You'd get to the event and there would always be plenty of space on the carpet for photographers and press. People would arrive casually, set-up their cams and just sort of chill until the Who's Who arrived.
Once they did it was relaxed too - you could get a shot easily because there was no sort of frenzy from photographers as there is in America.
Today, I'm pleased to inform you that all that's changed. The frenzy officially exists here. Being on the MAMAs carpet was crazy, crazy,
CRAZY. It was so busy I was forced to take my shoes off. I thought I was arriving early when I got there before 18h00 but it was already packed when I got there.
I had to force my way into a spot, the first schleb arrived and the next two hours were a cacophany of flashing lights, hustle and photographers voices ... everyone did what we always see on TV - calling out the schlebs' names, telling them what to do etc.
It was hysterical. And scary for a few schlebs ... one or two them looked terrified! (Which was even more fun of course).
With all that in mind, imagine the sounds of things as you browse the resulting album right here (features over 100 pics):
