SHOCKER: Fire destroys Big Brother house!

Big Brother uhdikts ... very grim news ... the Big Brother House has burnt to the ground!!!

I know ... it seems impossible that it's true, but it's no joke - it's just happened at Sasani Studios in Highlands North today!  Word from M-Net and Endemol is that the cause is unknown and that it's devastating. No-one's been hurt but it's so bad there's no way the show can premiere this Sunday (7th).

They're looking for an alternative house to film in but because of the high demands of the set-up it'll obviously take them time - if it's even possible.

It's too awful isn't it?! Feels as if a part of history's been burned and gone forever.

This is the second very hectic thing to happen to the show in a matter of days. As you may have seen on the TVSA Big Brother Africa Message Boards, the housemates from Rwanda, Sierre Leone and Ghana can't be on the show because of South Africa's new visa restrictions.

So many twists and the season hasn't even started yet. Will keep you posted when I hear more. (Considering wearing black for the house - reckon I will.).

Yes-yes Tshd21, got an update ... everyone's in emergency meetings, looking at what to do and options for a new house and the housemates are still coming as if it was going ahead.

Some of them are here already and others are in transit but they're all still coming. Not the Rwanda/Sierre Leone/Ghana housemates but the others.

I've just chatted to an insider at DStv who told me that one of the reasons no-one was hurt in the fire was because the production people were in meetings at DStv during the afternoon so they weren't on set when it happened.

.... bizarre ... that the day everyone was away it happened. Suspicious on one hand but an explanation could be that something short circuited while they were away.

Some pics from Twitter - thanks TsHepo and AngelEye :

Off topic alert!    You may have seen the message in the Broadcast message box? ... we've done some development work on the site and had to roll the site back to last night (3 September) so some posts have been lost - things posted this morning. Apologies for the inconvenience but the site's sorted now.

Back on Topic:  ...
I've just heard that it's a strong possibility they're going to use a Big Brother house somewhere else in the world. Received this statement:

"M-Net and Endemol have a full team working on an alternate venue for Big Brother. This includes a global review of Big Brother houses that may be available for the production. At this stage no final decision has been made on the venue or the possible timing - the team is working around the clock to find solutions to get the show on air. "

Could be a very good solution - might even solve the Ghana, Sierre Leone and Rwanda housemates problem if they don't have to come to South Africa. Would suck not having the show here but at least we'd get to see it.

Thanks Lindakie  - I've asked DStv if this is the house but they say they can't confirm. There's a strong possibility that it is though because they've just released this statement:

"The show will go on – Big Brother Africa to return soon

Following the devastating fire on 2 September 2014 at the Big Brother house in Johannesburg, M-Net and Endemol SA have spent the last 48 hours searching both locally and internationally for a venue in which to produce Season 9 of the highly popular Big Brother Africa reality show. After exploring all possible options, the team are delighted to announce that the show will go on as a venue has been found to get the show on air within the next month.

A multitude of factors have had to be considered including the complex technical requirements, logistics, technical crews and satellite link facilities which have all formed part of the challenge. However, M-Net is delighted to assure all its Big Brother fans that their favourite reality show will launch soon and thanks fans from across the continent for their support during the last two days.
