The turbulent world of rugby players, their WAGS and families becomes daily fodder from April next year when Getroud Met Rugby morphs into a weekday soapie.
kykNET has turned the Deon Opperman drama into a daily replacement for the cancelled Villa Rosa when it ends in March next year.
The series follows the lives of the stars of a Johannesburg rugby team and has had four successful seasons since it first premiered in 2009. Seasons have been released on DVD and there's been a movie so it's become a phenomenon for the channel which makes it a natural fit to become a daily show.
Final casting for it hasn't been confirmed yet. Some of the series regulars will return while others won't. Final decisions are being made as we speak. kykNET has confirmed that there's definitely going to be a scrum of new characters, specifically a new family with children aged between 16 and 24, as well as three new rugby couples.
According to Deon Opperman, the soapie will have a strong emphasis on the families of the players with a focus on the role of parents in a family. It's also going to pay extra attention to the dreams and aspirations of the women in the rugby players' lives - their wives, girlfriends and mothers.
There's going to more attention on the "getroud" aspect of the title and the storylines are going to be family friendly for the 18h30 timeslot.
Word from kykNET is that the cast will be confirmed by mid-November. We'll keep you posted.
