The SABC has announced that Uzalo will be extended from three to five nights a week, starting from an unconfirmed date.
The news was announced by SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng at an emergency press conference on Monday (11 July) which was called by the SABC "to address current issues pertaining to the organisation."
The extension comes the day after a
Sunday Times front page report which claimed that the show has become a political tool at the SABC because the series is produced by the president's daughter Gugu Zuma-Ncube.
According to the report, Hlaudi forced his staff to push through a R167-million budget for the show which a source described as being "about 10 times that of a 13-part series."
