Former Big Brother Nigeria Season 1 housemate Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the host of the new series.

So!... DStv's done an about turn on the Big Brother Naija sitch after our outcry about it only airing in East and West Africa.

Today MultiChoice announced that the show will now be airing in South Africa too, starting this Sunday at 20h00 (CAT).

It's going to air on the Premium, Extra, Compact, Family and Access bouquets, on Channel 198. The current fliekNET channel will go dark on Saturday (21 January) at midnight to make room for it.

The eviction shows and weekly and daily highlights shows will air on the two channels that change names more than Sonia Sedibe Mbele: Africa Magic Urban and Africa Magic World. Right now this is what they're called and they're on channels 153 and 155.

Some flash facts on BB Naija...

- There are only 12 housemates which is cool. I've always thought the show needs to stick to its original format instead of cramming in a million people we need to get to know.
- The prize: 25 million Naira, approximately R1.1 million.
- Don't expect to see anyone's naughty bits because there isn't a shower hour.
- They'll be in lockdown for 78 days.
- The series starts with a two-hour premiere on Sunday and ends with a two hour finale on 9 April.

Of course the news is crammed with potential problems. Most notably, the quality of the production. Let's hope it's a LOT better than last season's BB Mzansi.

Would have been silly to not have the show seen in SA considering the house is still here in SA. I do think its rather impressive that they can maintain an entirely Nigerian audience on a weekly basis in South Africa That being said, with the house fully equipped in SA we can hope for a local or continental one later in the year. I understand that cost is the issue but they can do it like the Nigerian one: no need for excess online content and live streams and only one channel. Keep the Costs low but still providing the entertainment.
