It's that time again dear TV lovers. Time for TV to take a back seat to sport because the SABC still doesn't have an SABC Sports channel despite years and years and years of promises.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Russia on Thursday, 14 June 2018, which means that SABC1 will once again be hijacked for the tournament.

Skeem Saam, Generations and Uzalo will do the usual switch to SABC2 and 3 for the duration of the competition, which runs until 15 July. Their times will remain the same.

This is where you'll find them for the duration of the Cup:

Skeem Saam

Skeem Saam moves to SABC2 (at 18h30) from Friday, 15 June.

Generations: The Legacy

Gen' moves to SABC3 (at 20h00) from Thursday, 14 June.

Uzalo

Uzalo moves to SABC2 (at 20h30) from Friday, 15 June.

Day 1 of the Cup on SABC1

The reason that Generations moves a day earlier is because of the broadcast of the opening ceremony on 14 June.

It airs on SABC1 at 15h00, which impacts on the shows afterwards.

The opening will be followed by an hour's build-up to the first game, followed by the first match between Russia and Saudi Arabia, which starts at 17h00.

This is what the Day 1 schedule looks like:

15h00: Opening ceremony
16h00: Build-up
17h00: First match
19h00: Wrap-up
19h30: Skeem Saam
20h00: Xhosa/Zulu news (this is why Generations moves to SABC3 a day earlier)
20h30: Uzalo

15 June on SABC2

This is the structure of SABC2's schedule thereafter, using 15 June as the example:

16h30: Hectic Nine-9
17h00: Naruto
17h30: Venda/Tsonga News
18h00: 7de Laan
18h30: Skeem Saam
19h00: #karekters
20h00: Afrikaans Nuus
20h30: Uzalo
21h00: Muvhango

14 June on SABC3

This is the structure of SABC3's schedule thereafter, using 14 June as the example:

16h30: Afternoon Express
17h30: Bold and the Beautiful
18h00: News headlines / Real Talk with... um...?
19h00: Isidingo
19h30: The Scoop
20h00: Generations
20h30: Presenter Search on 3
21h30: English News (News @ 21h00 moves to 21h30 for the duration of the Cup)

If only those twats at the SABC could create a sports channel, we wouldn't be dealing with this BS every time a major sports event comes around.
