The Case Against Adnan Syed

Channel: M-Net City (DStv 115)

Genre: True Crime, Documentary Series

The Case Against Adnan Syed

The 1999 murder of 18-year-old Baltimore County high school student Hae Min Lee, and the subsequent conviction of her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, were brought to global attention in 2014 by the hugely popular "Serial" podcast.

But there is more to the story.

The Case Against Adnan Syed reinvestigates the case behind the podcast, from the genesis of their high school relationship to the original police investigation and trial, and moves into the current day.

The series reviews the events leading up to Hae Min Lee's disappearance, from high school romance, forbidden love and cultural conflict, to the aftermath of her disappearance, the original police investigation and the present day, as Syed awaits the outcome of a lengthy appeals process.

Director Amy Berg brings a fresh eye to the case and offers interviews with key players, many of whom were not featured in the original podcast.

Bringing the story to life visually, she revisits the crime and follows unfolding developments from 2014 to today.

The series presents new information that questions the state's case, and draws on exclusive access to essential characters, including new audio recordings of Syed from prison, the defence team, the Syed family, friends and teachers of Hae Min Lee, private investigators and members of Baltimore City law enforcement, examining how Syed's trial and subsequent conviction in 2000 raised as many questions as they answered.

Along with footage and recordings from the original investigation and trial, The Case Against Adnan Syed features exclusive new interviews with figures from many sides of the case, including: Syed's mother, father and brothers; family friend and advocate Rabia Chaudry, who originally reached out to "Serial" podcast host Sarah Koenig; Asia McClain, a key witness in the appeal; Susan Simpson, an attorney and advocate for Syed; high school friends Aisha Pittman, Krista Meyers, Laura Estrada Sandoval and Debbie Warren; Darryl Massey, a former Baltimore City police detective on Syed's case; and key prosecution witnesses who have not spoken publicly until now.

A wealth of archival footage, documents from the case file, family photos and personal ephemera bring back the feel of 1990s Baltimore and give visual texture to elements of a story that unfolds over two decades.

Hae Min Lee's richly detailed teenage diary, charting the emotional journey through her last high school years, is brought to life with voiceover, illustration and animation.

Splitting Up Together 2

Channel: M-Net (DStv 101)
TX Time: 18h00
Genre: Comedy

Splitting Up Together 2

Lena and Martin were once madly in love. But, like many marriages, time and circumstance eventually took their toll and the romance disappeared.

Finding themselves in a platonic marriage and acting more like a pair of camp counselors wrangling their kids than a couple hopelessly in love, they decide that everyone's lives would be better served if they got a divorce.

Still wanting the best for their three kids and facing a daunting real estate market, the couple decided to "Bird Nest" instead.

One parent lives in the house as the "on-duty" parent taking care of the kids, while the "off-duty" parent lives in the detached garage, doing whatever he or she pleases while switching off every other week.

In the Season 2 premiere, "Sign Language": The morning after Lena and Martin sleep together, Lena searches for signs that they are or aren't meant to be a couple.

Their relationship is put to the test after she organises a romantic beach getaway and it becomes apparent what's meant to be.

Meanwhile, Arthur and Camille trail Lisa Apple, hoping to determine if she is pregnant with Martin's baby.

Elsewhere, Maya struggles to decide if she should tell her new boyfriend, Frank, about her pregnancy.

Burden of Truth 2

After fighting for the justice of five sick girls in her hometown of Millwood, corporate attorney Joanna Chang (Kristin Kreuk) finds herself at a top law firm in Winnipeg ready to make a fresh start away from her previous firm.

There, a new client draws her into the shadowy world of hackers, activists and a political movement that won't take any prisoners.

The case leads Joanna through many twists and turns, until she eventually becomes a killer's target.

Her estranged father tries to assist her, which leads to an event that will change both their lives forever.

In the Season 2 premiere, "Salesmen, Cheats and Liars": Joanna is working at a new law firm a year after her successful lawsuit against the steel mill in Millwood.

Looking to start over, Joanna took up her mother's surname and settled in a new city hoping for a quieter life.

However, when her boss assigns her to a case for a brilliant, young, internet hacktivist, Joanna is dragged into a dark world of secrets that will turn her life upside down.

Meanwhile, with the steel mill closed, the residents of Millwood are struggling to make ends meet and Billy is doing all he can to stop the town's downward spiral.

Luna and Molly adjust to living together.
