Bio
The role of Mandla on Tshisa is Durban-born Ntuthuko Mdletshe’s TV debut.
The rapper, actor and extreme sport enthusiast was advised to study to become a project manager, but wanted to be in entertainment.
“I wanted to do drama. I did drama at school. I hung out with the drama kids and I was working at a recording studio and I started making music. I plan to launch a career in music and own a record company one day.”
But his parents, both teachers, advised against it. So Ntuthuko started working to save up money. “I worked as shop assistant - not one of my more memorable experiences.”
It was at the Durban leg of SABC1’s public auditions for continuity presenters that Ntuthuko got noticed.
“I arrived late and they’d already closed, but I decided I really wanted this, so I talked security into letting me in.”
Although he wasn’t selected, he caught the eye of SABC1. He received a call advising him to go to Jozi to audition for Tshisa. By the time he arrived at the Moja Movie Factory offices, the auditions had already ended but the role of Mandla had not yet been decided.
Tshisa’s producer allowed him to audition and he was cast in the role.
