The Hot Seat is a South African television game show produced by Endemol South Africa and hosted by radio DJ Alex Jay designed to test and celebrate contestants' knowledge of South Africa, Africa and the world.
The Hot Seat premiered on SABC3 on Wednesday 4 October 2006, at 19h30, replacing The Weakest Link.
Synopsis
Each episode sees 15 Studio Players, selected by SMS entry, pitting their general knowledge about South Africa, Africa and the world against each other in a bid to unseat the reigning Hot Seat Contestant. General knowledge questions are asked, and points are accumulated.
The contestant in the Hot Seat uses their knowledge and ability to withstand pressure to fight off their challenger, who is assisted by a consultant.
If the Hot Seat Contestant cracks under the pressure and is beaten in the battle of wits, the challenger takes up the Hot Seat and the consultant becomes the challenger.
As fortunes shift, new players are selected from the 'Think Tank' of 15 Studio players.
In the end, there can be only one winner – the contestant holding the Hot Seat by the end of the game.
One more hurdle remains, and that is for the winning contestant to 'take a shot at the Hot Pot' – the total accumulated points by the end of the game.
Should they succeed in answering one final question, the Hot Pot is theirs, and they return the following week as the reigning Hot Seat hottie.
