Synopsis
The MTV Europe Music Awards were established in 1994 by MTV Europe to celebrate the most popular music videos in Europe.
Originally beginning as an alternative to the American MTV Video Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards is today a popular celebration of what MTV viewers consider the best in music. Unlike the VMAs, most of the awards are voted for by the viewers.
The MTV Europe Music Awards always changes its host city. The 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards are hosted in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
The awards are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Europe, MTV and most of the international MTV channels as well as online.
2008 Awards
For the third time in its 15-year history the MTV Europe Music Awards were back in the UK.
After events in London in 1996 and Edinburgh in 2003, we took the EMA truck to Liverpool, home of both the five-time European Champions Cup winners Liverpool FC and The Beatles, but is now also the current European Capital of Culture.
Broadcast live across the world from the Echo Arena, the brand new concert and event facility was located on the city's famous riverfront and is set to be one of the most environmentally-friendly venues of its kind in Europe.
The hosts of the awards were Katy Perry with Perez Hilton hosting the official online coverage and MTV News from the red carpet on the night of the event.
