Description

Sara se Geheim (Sarah's Secret) is a South African, Afrikaans-language television drama series produced by Paw Paw Films which revolves around two families that are bound inextricably together by a decades-old lie.

Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead...

Secrets and lies. Good lies and bad lies. Secrets that destroy relationships because a lie can only be kept secret by more lies. And then the truth: family blood will flow where it cannot walk.

Sara se Geheim is set in Cape Town, with two stories taking place at the same time - one about a family in Durbanville and the other of a family in Athlone. These families' lives are seemingly worlds apart, but a lie connects them - a lie which has been held secret for 35 long years...

However, the series is not only dark and dramatic. The themes are also juxtaposed with the lighter, more humorous consequences of secrets and lies in the daily lives of the characters.

There are three families in Sara se Geheim: the Cloetes, the Kiewiets and the Vermeulens - and the one person who binds them together is Sara Abrahams (June van Merch). She is the ancestress and heavy with a deep, dark secret and a lie that should she had to tell 35 years ago in order to save her son's life.

Sara is also the custodian of her children's secrets. As the story unfolds and we see everyone's secrets unravel, we see how the relationship between mother and daughter, brother and sister and spouses are cut open.

June van Merch plays Sara Abrahams and Quanita Adams plays her younger daughter, Lizzie Kiewiets. Lee-Ann van Rooi plays the role of the older daughter, Maggie Cloete.

Other players in the cast include Dawid Minnaar, Natania van Heerden, Brendon Daniels, Charlton George, Keenan Arrison, Lise-Marie Richardson, Marlo Minnaar, Margot Luyt, Elton Landrew, André Weideman, Nicola Hanekom, Edwin van der Walt, Geon Nel, Marco Spaumer, De Klerk Oelofse, Celeste Matthews, Grant Swanby, Catriona Andrew and Shimmy Isaacs.

The writers of the series include Margaret Goldsmid, Peter Goldsmid, Kaye Ann Williams, Hnerietta Gryffenberg, David Isaacs, Ferdinand van Zyl, Tamara Sheraton, Ephraim Gordon, Mia Breet, Thomas Hall, Candice Johannes, Johann Davids, EKM Dido, Ilse Oppelt, Justine Loots and Tristam Atkins.

The directors are Mia Breet and David Isaacs and the series is produced for kykNET by Paw Paw Films, a subdivision of Penguin Films. The supervising producer for kykNET is Anneke Villet. Original music is by Murray Anderson.
