Season 7

Dancing with the Stars is an American reality competition television series based on the BBC series Strictly Come Dancing, and is part of BBC Worldwide's international Dancing with the Stars franchise.

The show premiered in the USA on ABC on 1 June, 2005.

Dancing with the Stars premiered in South Africa on DStv's BBC Prime channel (which later became BBC Entertainment) on Sunday 23 March 2008, at 20h00, beginning with Season 5. The first four seasons did not air in South Africa.

See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 7 premiered on BBC Entertainment on Sunday 10 October 2010, at 19h30. Double episodes broadcast back-to-back, weekly.

Season 7

Full of glitz, glamour, sequins and stardom, Dancing With The Stars returns for another season of pairing celebrities with professional ballroom and Latin American dancers.

The celebrities taking part in this season are:

Brooke Burke - Model and TV Host
Cloris Leachman - Actress
Cody Linley - Disney Star
Kim Kardashian - Reality TV Star
Jeffrey Ross - Standup Comedian
Lance Bass - Former *NSYNC Star
Maurice Greene - Olympic Gold Medal Sprinter
Misty May-Treanor - Olympic Volleyball Player
Rocco DiSpirito - Celebrity Chef
Susan Lucci - All My Children Star
Ted McGinley - Actor
Toni Braxton - R&B Singer
Warren Sapp - Super Bowl Champion NFL Football player

The celebrities are paired with professional dancers, and in each episode the couples compete in a live knock-out ballroom dancing competition, performing a new dance every time, until they are eliminated from the competition by a combination of judges and audience.

The panel of judges is made up of ballroom and Latin dance judges and well-known choreographers. They help guide the viewers through the dances being featured, ensure that the couples incorporate the required steps into their routines and that the competition is taken seriously and has credibility.

As well as the glamour of the live show, the cameras follow the couples throughout their dance training. They start training six weeks prior to the first transmission and continue through the season.

All the training is filmed in observational documentary style, charting the couples' progress and exploring their relationships.

Background

The show pairs a celebrity with a professional ballroom dancer. The professional dancer is responsible for teaching the celebrity how to perform specific dances, which the pair perform live on the show each week.

The dancers are scored by a panel of three professional dance judges. Additionally, viewers of the program may vote by phone, text message, or online methods.

The team which receives the lowest total score (a combination of the judges' scores and viewer votes) each week is eliminated from the competition.

The panel of judges consists of Len Goodman (head judge), Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli. The announcements for the show's titles ("Live from Hollywood, this is Dancing With the Stars") and introductions for the dances and judges' scores were recorded in the United Kingdom by Alan Dedicoat.
