Perez Hilton is an American celebrity blogger and television personality best known for online posts covering gossip items about celebrities and for posting tabloid photographs over which he has added his own captions or doodles.
Born in Miami, Florida, he is the son of Mario and Teresita Lavandeira. A Cuban-American, Mario was raised in Miami, Florida. He has one sibling, a younger sister, Barbara.
Perez graduated with honours from New York University and received a B.F.A. in Drama from The Tisch School of the Arts in May 2000.
After graduation from New York University in 2000, and before beginning his blogging career, Hilton attempted a career as an actor. He briefly worked as a media relations assistant for LGBT rights organization GLAAD, was a freelance writer for gay publications, worked as a receptionist for NYC gay events club Urban Outings, and was briefly the managing editor of Instinct, a gay men's magazine.
Hilton's angle on celebrity gossip includes an unapologetic desire to mingle with and be a part of celebrity culture. He often describes celebrity awards shows, clubs, and private events he has attended, and posts photographs of himself with the celebrities he writes about under the "Personally Perez" category of his blog.
He has made cameo appearances in numerous television series including The Sopranos, From Flab to Fab, Pepper Dennis, Celebrity Rap Superstar, MADtv, Degrassi: The Next Generation, America's Next Top Model, Victorious, Perez Hilton Superfan and Glee.
He also appeared in his own docu-reality series Perez Hilton: All Access, which followed him as he spent time with his celebrity friends Lady Gaga, Kelly Rowland, Katy Perry and Enrique Iglesias.
His first child, Mario Armando Lavandeira III, was born on February 16, 2013. He was conceived with a donor egg and carried by a surrogate mother.
