The Dukes of Hazzard is an American action television series created by Gy Waldron and based on his 1975 film Moonrunners which follows the adventures of Bo and Luke Duke, two cousins living in a rural part of the fictional Hazzard County, Georgia.

With their cousin Daisy and wise old Uncle Jesse, they spend their time racing around in their customized 1969 Dodge Charger, The General Lee, evading corrupt county commissioner Boss Hogg and his inept county sheriff, Rosco P. Coltrane.

The series aired in the USA on CBS from 26 January, 1979 to 8 February, 1985. There are 145 hour-long episodes in seven seasons.

The Dukes of Hazzard premiered in South Africa on TopTV's Fox Retro channel on Tuesday 4 May 2010, at 19h45. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 2 premiered on Fox Retro on Tuesday 3 August 2010, at 20h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 26 episodes in the second season.

Synopsis

Action series set in the rural community of Hazzard.

The Dukes are a family who were once moonshiners but when cousins Bo and Luke were caught; they were given probation on the condition that they give up moon shining, which they did.

Every now and then they learn that J.D. Hogg, who is called Boss Hogg, is up to something so they do what they can to stop him especially when someone close to them is being threatened by him.

So along with their Uncle Jesse, their lovely cousin Daisy, and their good friend and mechanic, Cooter they stop every one of Boss' schemes.

They are also fortunate that Hogg's right hand man, Roscoe Coltrane - who is also the Sheriff - is not very competent, and that his Deputy, though loyal to Hogg and Roscoe, is not corrupt and has a thing for Daisy, is a tad clumsy.

During the 5th season, Tom Wopat and John Schneider who play Luke and Bo had a contract dispute with the show, so they were written off for the first 18 episodes of the season. Cousins Coy and Vance came to stay with Uncle Jesse and helped him and Daisy with their encounters with Hogg.
