Idols 15 Top 6: The show stops for Mangaliso

It was goodbye to 24-year-old Mangaliso Gumbi on Sunday night (13 October) when she became the latest Idols wannabe to crumble to the twins' staying power.

Here's a rundown of the episode by the show:

With just a few weeks to go to the finale, the pressure is on for the remaining contestants to prove that they have what it takes to be the next South African Idol. And there’s no better week to show the goods than on Showstopper Night - arguably the most anticipated evening of the competition.

With the evening already amped up by the judges, who took to the stage to show off their outfits, and the Top 7 group performance of Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s Old Town Road - the evening was set for the contestants to bring it.

Luyolo Yiba

Luyolo performed first with Dance Till You Drop by Naakmusiq.  While Randall Abrahams and Unathi uWeepy - Ed! -  were pleased with his performance, Somizi Mhlongo said he expected more from the easy-going Luyolo.

Virginia also divided the judges with her performance of Mafikizolo and Uhuru’s Khona, as did Nolo with his rendition of Da Capo’s Speed of Sound.

Virginia Qwabe

Unathi said Virginia gave an all-round good performance, but Randall wished she had enjoyed the performance a bit more, while Somizi said it was nothing spectacular.

Nolo Seodisha

Nolo could have done more to be front and centre of the performance, said Randall, though Unathi felt he killed it. Again, Somizi did not warm up to the performance, saying it was a “no”.

Micayla Oelofse

Micayla’s performance of Fifth Harmony’s Worth It was also met with some reservations by the judges, who all felt she could have done better. Unathi pleaded with her to enjoy herself more.

The evening belonged to Viggy and Sneziey when it came to the judges' feedback.

Viggy Qwabe

Somizi said Viggy’s performance of Hamba by Zanda Zakusa was the first showstopper of the evening. “Finally, the show begins!” he exclaimed.

Sneziey

Sneziey's Proud Mary was met with ululation by Unathi and a “Whoo Shem” from Somizi. Randall was so impressed by her performance, he had no words.

Or was he just too lazy to think of anything to say?

Was Sneziey's performance your favourite of the night too?

So sad to see Mmangaliso leaving...... Sneziey was easily the performance of the night the others were disappointing, still can't see the hype behind the twins

Didnt expect Mmangaliso to leave at this stage.  I thought she'd be in the top 4. Ah well, popularity trumps talent in these votes-based competitions.

What a disappointing Showstopper week.  Sneziey took it, hands down.

The twins better be next!
