And our 16th Idol is... Zama!

It was Victory for Witbank on Sunday night (13 December) when Zama Khumalo took the Idols 16 title from Mr Music, who reacted very differently from runner-up Mthokozisi three years ago.

Flashback to >> 2017 when he disappeared from sight in a sulk-fest of note, refusing to speak to anyone after losing to Paxton.

In contrast, Mr Music was in the thick of things in the aftermath of the live show and seemed unfazed (and almost happy) at the turn of events.

The Idols prize-giving and media conference usually happens in-the-flesh at the venue on finale night but this year it happened on a dedicated DStv channel and via streaming, which was made available to members of the media.

Mr Music was awarded first - with no names on his cheques or prize descriptions. How do you cash a cheque when your name is Mr Music? And, more importantly, who uses cheques?

Zama's name wasn't on hers either, just "Idols Season 16 winner".

At the end of the prize-giving Oskido elbow-hugged Zama and presented her with the Kalawa Jazmee recording deal for her album, and said: "To everyone who voted, we're not going to disappoint you."

Big promises. Let's hope they're delivered.

And let's reflect on why Zama won. A better voice? More ardent fans? Or karma?

When the Top 16 were first announced she said her motto was: "Do unto others as you'd like done to you."

If she lives this, did it create good vibez for her or did she win because she's a better singer? There is no clear answer because this is 2020 mofos!

Or is there an answer? Do you think she's the rightful winner?
