About the Show

Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola is a South African satirical news comedy television series produced by Diprente Productions and hosted by comedian Loyiso Gola that puts a comedic spin on current affairs and breaking news through commentary and sketch inserts.

True journalism relies on facts and verified information. Late Nite News (LNN) relies purely on speculation and, most times, absurd hearsay.

Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola has a formal look about it and features comedians as "Field Reporters", including Riaad Moosa, David Kibuuka, Chester Missing and Jason Cope.

The show follows a professional structure and is set in a formal news studio, but the latest news is interspersed with non-stop tongue-in-cheek one-liners offering viewers a comedic take on current political and international stories.

Late Nite News anchor Loyiso Gola is known for his no-holds-barred comedy and throws into the Late Nite News mix political and social interviews with various guests.

Loyiso's approach is towards guests is confrontational and aggressive. He blows stories completely out of proportion and creates a comedy vibe.

Each episode is concluded with a "Morale Index", narrated by Loyiso. Using an animated graphic interface, this segment measures the country's milestones and failures in the week using a graph diagram.

Broadcast Notes

The series premiered on e.tv and DStv's eNews channel (which became eNCA on 19 August 2012) on Wednesday 29 September 2010, at 21h30. The series was simulcast on both channels at the same time for the first five seasons, after which the e.tv broadcast was delayed by a day.
