About the Show

SOF: Special Ops Force (known in its first season as Soldier of Fortune, Inc.) is an American action/adventure television series created by Dan Gordon about an elite team (composed of mostly former military personnel) who performed "unofficial" missions for the US Government, typically dealing with terrorists and drug lords and often tacking issues such as patriotism and self-sacrifice.

Melding blazing explosions, hi-tech gadgetry and heart-pounding danger, SOF: Special Ops Force is a pulse-racing, no-holds-barred action hour following a highly trained team of covert military operatives, who take on the most volatile and dangerous of secret missions each week when all other options fail.

When the job's too tough for the Navy SEALs, too dangerous for the Green Berets and far too risky for anyone else, the government calls in the S.O.F team.

The series originally starred Brad Johnson (Melrose Place, Courthouse), Tim Abell (We Were Soldiers, Soldiers of God), Réal Andrews (General Hospital, All My Children), Melinda Clarke (The O.C, Nikita) and Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica). In Season 2 Andrews and Sheppard left the show and Dennis Rodman and David Eigenberg replaced them.

The theme song was performed by South African-born Trevor Rabin of Rabbitt and Yes fame.

Special Notes

The series aired in the USA in syndication from 27 September, 1997 to 22 May, 1999. There are 37 hour-long episodes in two seasons.

SOF: Special Ops Force originally premiered in South Africa on SABC3 on 17 February, 1999. Before the SABC had aired the second season, rival broadcaster e.tv began broadcasting the it as a "spin-off" from Soldier of Fortune, Inc. (which the show was known as in the first season), meaning the series began on SABC3 and ended on e.tv. It also later aired on DStv's CBS Action channel.
