ABOUT
BBC America delivers U.S. audiences high-quality, innovative and intelligent programming. Established in 1998, it has been the launch pad for talent embraced by American mainstream pop culture, including Ricky Gervais, Gordon Ramsay, Graham Norton, and successful programming formats including ground-breaking non-scripted television like Top Gear and top-rated science-fiction like Doctor Who.
BBC America is home to British series such as Being Human, Law & Order: UK, 6 Nations Rugby, The Inbetweeners, Torchwood, Top Gear, Doctor Who, Robin Hood, Primeval, Skins, Gavin & Stacey, The Graham Norton Show, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Monty Python, Dragons' Den, How Clean Is Your House, You Are What You Eat, and hard-hitting news with a global perspective.
In the mid-2000s, BBC America produced a few of its own shows along with some joint productions. These have included Sharpe's Challenge, part of the Sharpe series of made-for-television movies and co-produced with ITV; as well as The State Within and Jekyll, which were co-productions with the BBC.
The first original series produced solely by the channel was Copper, which premiered in the summer of 2012.
Owned by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, BBC America has attracted both critical acclaim and major awards. The channel attracts one of cable's most affluent and educated audiences and is available on cable and satellite TV in more than 80-million homes.
It broadcasts in both standard and high-definition, with content available On Demand across all major digital platforms.
BBC America is a product of BBC Television, creator of BBC One and BBC Two in the UK, and BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC. BBC Worldwide is Europe's largest exporter of television programs and a major international broadcaster, publisher and co-producer.
