True African was announced on Friday 3 March, 2017 as a replacement for OpenView HD's channel eNolly+ in direct response to the feedback from viewers.

The channel went live on Monday 3 April, 2017, at 16h00, broadcasting 24 hours.

The True African channel is a snapshot of contemporary Africa, showcasing handpicked premium entertainment and lifestyle content from across the entire continent. It positions istself as "vibrant, energetic, trend setting and innovative; in telling the stories of the people and nations of Africa."
