ABOUT
Dedicated to founder Robert Redford's mission to celebrate creativity, SundanceTV positioned itself as "the television destination for independent-minded viewers seeking something different."
The channel, describing itself as "bold, imaginative and uncompromising", offered audiences a diverse and engaging selection of high-quality independent films, documentaries and original programs.
Launched internationally in 1996, SundanceTV showcased today's creative icons and the emerging talent of tomorrow while celebrating the unique spirit of creativity and independent storytelling established by the world-renowned annual Sundance Film Festival.
SundanceTV showcased award-winning films from the Festival, many of which were seen exclusively on the network. The channel also broadcast original drama series from AMC studios and other leading distributors such as Fear the Walking Dead, Into the Badlands and Breaking Bad, among others.
The channel launched in South Africa on 1 June 2017 and one of the first original series to air was The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan.
Some of the Film Festival Selections to premiere on the channel at launch included the documentary Cries from Syria, which bears witness to the resiliency of the people of Syria in the wake of their exposure to unthinkable crimes against humanity.
I Smile Back is a portrait of a suburban wife and mother dealing with depression and disillusionment that send her careening into a secret world of reckless compulsion.
In addition to being widely distributed throughout North America, SundanceTV is available throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.
Owned and operated by AMC Networks International, SundanceTV was available in HD and across multiple platforms.
