ABOUT
Positioning itself as "the global authority on everything home", HGTV began life in South Africa in November 2017, when MultiChoice ran a three-week trial of the channel's programming in a daily block on the Travel Channel, which is also owned by Discovery Networks.
The channel performed well enough to warrant its own slot and was officially launched in high definition at 06h00 on DStv Channel 177 on 15 July, 2019.
HGTV primarily focuses on lifestyle, DIY, makeover and home and garden content through five pillars of the home: buying and selling, renovation, flipping, home improvement and dream homes.
The first programme to air was an episode of House Hunters 68.
