ABOUT
eKasi+ was launched by e.tv in October 2013 along with three other themed HD entertainment channels (eAfrica+, eMovies+ and eToonz+) exclusively through the new OpenView HD platform.
eKasi+ complemented e.tv as a local channel, boasting a high percentage of new South African content, tailor-made to appeal specifically to the inhabitants of South Africa's lively townships.
Shows featured on the channel included Ekse: Let's Talk With Masechaba Lekalake, Number Numba, Kasi My Kasi, Gumba Gumba, Kasi-licious, Shadows and Behind the Gospel.
Socialite Khanyi Mbau, Chef Katlego Mlambo, singer Ntombi Mzolo and radio host Masechaba Lekalake were some of the familiar faces that the eKasi channel viewers got to see and interact with on a weekly basis after the channel went live.
eKasi+ also carried daily Nguni news at 20h00, soapies, African drama series, African-American movies, sitcoms, reality and game shows.
In April 2014, the flagship e.tv music show Club 808 was moved to eKasi+ and the services of Nonhle Thema were hired when she was asked to co-present the series with Mo Flava, in a bid to add more star power to the eKasi+ brand.
eKasi+ was discontinued on 31 March, 2017, making way for the eExtra and True African channels.
