ABOUT
M-Net and MultiChoice redesigned channel 162 on DStv to become a general entertainment channel for the entire family. On Wednesday, 1 July 2015 from 17h00, MagicWorld made way for M-Net Family.
This revamped channel was designed to bring premium content to the DStv Family bouquet, but was also available on DStv Premium, Extra and Compact.
M-Net Family carried a variety of international content – from drama and reality series to movies - while some local shows and a kiddies programming block also formed part of the offering.
M-Net Family also featured curated content that had never been seen on the DStv Family package before.
When the channel launched, the initial programming was as follows:
15h00, weekdays: The Wild (soapie)
16h00, weekdays: The Talk (talk show
17h00, weekdays: Champs (telenovela)
18h00, weekdays: Manhattan Love Story, The Millers 2
18h30, weekdays: MasterChef Junior USA
19h30, weekdays: America's Got Talent 9
20h30: Marvel's Agent Carter, The Night Shift, Red Band Society, Nashville 2
On Saturdays and Sundays there was a family movie at 18h00 as well as series omnibuses throughout the day.
Kiddies block Koowee aired from 07h00 to 08h00 each morning on weekdays and 06h00 to 08h00 on Saturdays, as well as on weekday afternoons for a half an hour from 15h00 to 15h30.
M-Net Family refined its schedule as from Monday 4 July, 2016. Sitcoms, reality and talk shows that were on M-Net City were moved to M-Net Family, which began to focus predominantly on light drama series, reality and talk shows.
In October 2016 the channel was upgraded from SD to HDTV (720p).
M-Net Family was discontinued on 31 March, 2017, with M-Net citing poor performance as a reason. Content from the channel was moved to Vuzu from 1 April.
