The Contender Australia is a reality competition television series produced by Granada Productions and based on the American show The Contender, in which boxers compete against each other weekly until only one remains, with an added element of insight into the competitor's lives and relationships with each other within the show's living quarters.
The series premiered in Australia on Fox8 on 3 November, 2009.
The Contender Australia premiered in South Africa on DStv's M-Net Action channel on Monday 18 October 2010, at 18h00. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 11 episodes in the first season.

Synopsis
The Contender Australia is an unscripted drama about the lives, fears and hopes of 14 professional super middleweight boxers as they compete for the chance to forever change their lives and the lives of the people they love.
Following the success of the U.S. series of The Contender, the Australian version follows the boxers as they live, train and compete together for the coveted title of The Contender Australia and the ultimate prize of a fight with Anthony "The Man" Mundine.
Produced by Granada Productions, the series follows the challenges these boxers face in their personal lives and career, as well as providing insight to their fears and hopes as they compete for the chance to change their lives forever.
The highly stressful, tough competition will test their relationships with each other in and out of the ring.
Charlotte Dawson and Daniel Amalm host the series and work beside mentor Johnny Lewis and team trainers Paul Briggs and Billy Hussein. They all play a part in guiding the boxers through the most intense training of their careers and the most challenging experience of their lives.
As the boxers battle it out competing against each other in their Contender journey they will all have their eye on the guaranteed fight with Mundine and a $250,000 purse once they step into the ring with him.
Also featured are some of the world's all time greatest fighters who make an appearance providing inspiration for the boxers throughout their journey.
Prizes also include $25,000 cash, a Holden SV6 Ute and a trip overseas.
