Season 27
The People's Choice Awards is an American awards show created by Bob Stivers recognising the people and the work of popular culture - in the fields of music, television and film - from the past year and is the only major awards show where members of the public determine the nominees and winners.
The show has been held annually since 1975.
The People's Choice Awards aired for the first time in South Africa on DStv's Vuzu channel on Saturday 2 March 2013, at 21h00, beginning with the 39th annual awards. The first 38 award ceremonies did not air in South Africa.
About the Awards
People's Choice, the original metric of pop culture, is dedicated to providing entertainment fans with a platform to express their opinions.
The annual People's Choice Awards live telecast gives fans a chance to honour their favourite entertainers, while the People's Choice official website lets enthusiasts voice their choices year round through polls and contests.
The People's Choice Awards celebrates fan favourites in music, movies and television and is the only major awards show where real people - not industry insiders - determine the nominees and winners, setting it apart from other awards shows.
In the age of American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and countless other franchises where the fans decide the outcome, People's Choice was ahead of its time.
For years many of Hollywood's most popular actors, musicians, television shows and movies have been named People's Choice Award winners by their fans.
The event began in 1975 with 14 categories; winners included Mary Tyler Moore, Barbra Streisand and The Sting. By 2010, there were over 40 categories.
The People's Choice official website houses the voting platform where fans determine the categories, nominees and winners for the annual awards show.
Every year, potential nominees are determined by national ratings averages, box-office grosses, music sales and PeoplesChoice.com data, then vetted through EPoll Market Research.
