Season 49

This year the Staples Centre in Los Angeles hosted the 49th Annual Grammy Award ceremony.

Honouring musicians and their acheivements between 1 October, 2005 and 30 September, 2006, nominees and winners are chosen by members of the National Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (also known as The Recording Academy).

Established in 1957, The Recording Academy is an organization of musicians, producers, engineers and recording professionals that is dedicated to improving the cultural condition and quality of life for music and its makers.

The 49th Annual Grammy Awards were broadcast live in South Africa on Channel O on 12 February, 2007 at 03h00.

The delayed broadcast was on M-Net on 12 February, 2007 at 19h00.

The opening act

The all important opening act was performed by The Police (Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers), who reunited to perform at the Grammy's for the first time.
