Season 5

Season 5 - Survivor South Africa: Champions - originally aired on M-Net from 19 January to 18 May, 2014, on Sundays at 17h30. There are 18 episodes in the fifth season, which was won by Graham Jenneker (with the viewer prize for team captain going to Corne Krige).

Survivor South Africa is back, entitled "Survivor South Africa: Champions", and two sporting legends have been tasked to lead the tribes that will face hunger pains, the elements of nature, nasty creepy crawlies, and the game's trademark plotting and scheming – all in the quest to become the next Ultimate Survivor.

Soccer superstar Mark Fish and former Springbok rugby captain Corné Krige are the two national heroes that will go head to head in M-Net's brand new Survivor South Africa: Champions.

Unlike their tribe members, who will all be unknown South African citizens, they won't run the risk of being voted off at the show's dreaded tribal councils. Yet, every second on the island will be just as important to them.

While the other Survivors are giving all they have to survive the island's hardships and win the jury's vote for a cash prize of R1-million, Mark and Corné will be playing their own game, with their eyes set on a separate R500,000, for themselves.

But to get the R500,000 into their bank account, they will first have to impress the most difficult jury of them all – the voting public.

While the show is screened on M-Net, these critical Survivor fans will scrutinize Corné and Mark's every move, maneuver, decision and tactic to determine which of the two proved to be the best tribal captain.

Two weeks prior to the series' launch on Sunday, 19 January M-Net revealed the names of the tough, devious and cunning Survivor contestants who were in for the adventure of a lifetime, somewhere in the South China Sea.

While the captains, who can't be voted off, will try to outperform each other, these 20 castaways will do whatever it takes to not be voted off at tribal council – because at the end of 27 days of hell in paradise, the last person standing will walk off with R1-million in cash and the title of Ultimate Survivor.

Even though the gender spread is even – 10 men and 10 women – the new group of Survivor SA castaways come from an array of backgrounds and occupations: from a helicopter pilot, an HR director and an astrophysicist to a farrier and a mortuary attendant.

There are also some highly competitive sports people, including a decathlon champion, rugby players and a martial arts guru, as well as Survivor fans who're entering the game with intricate strategies.

So, who will be voted off first, who will drive the others up the tropical hills, who will plot, scheme and connive, who will form alliances, who will thrive in the challenges, who will be blindsided, who will mislead their tribe mates and turn out not to be who they pretend to be and finally - who will be the Ultimate Survivor?
