Season 7
Afro Café is a South African music variety show produced by BonNgoe Productions which combines music videos and features with interviews of up-and-coming artists.
The show premiered on SABC2 on Monday 4 July 2005, at 22h00. It remained on Mondays until Season 4, when it was moved to Sundays (retaining its 22h00 timeslot). It was moved to Tuesdays for Season 5.
Season 7 premiered on SABC2 on Tuesday 20 April 2010, at 22h00. New episodes air weekly. There are 26 episodes in the seventh season.
Season 7
Afro Café welcomes back Stoan Seate as host, popularly known as the front man of the successful group Bongo Maffin. He brings his own unique flavour to the show, best known as the Setswana member of this award-winning trio.
Now in its seventh season, the new and revamped Afro Café delves deeper into the nooks and crannies of the South African music landscape with the gems of the local music front as our guides, also showcasing South African music legends.
Afro Café ushers in the new season with Yvonne Chaka Chaka, belting out her favourite tunes and songs from her latest offering titled "18/28".
Stoan also takes us to the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City for a live performance by Freshlyground.
Presented in English and Sotho the show aims to showcase new African music talent, with the focus on music breaking down cultural boundaries.
Afro Café is also a vehicle to highlight up-and-coming artists and venues of interest.
Each one-hour edition is a mixed bag of live music, music videos, artist interviews and related inserts.
