The Arizona Desert Delivers No Justice

bransens_finalEPISODE 7:

That was was so blah - you put up with people being rubbish for an hour and then there’s not even the satisfaction of seeing a Pig family fried into bacon.

Like everyone I suspected it could be a non-elimination and wanted it to be when the Paolo's almost lost it – what were they thinking putting on their clothes without being sure they were last?? My nerves were finished. Can you imagine how horrible it would have been if it had been an elimination and they’d lost because of that?

In between that and the moments leading up to the Bransen’s yawny fifth place arrival I really wanted it to turn out to be an elimination 'cos they don’t deserve another chance.

That father has to be the biggest girl-dad I’ve ever seen in my life. Urgh – he needed such a punch for his disappointed hang-dog jowls and head when he heard they were staying and the way he babied on in the car about that phonecall to some unknown entity was sooo pathetic.

His patronising attitude and implications that he’s such a matyr at the mercy of the three girls sucks. At the end as they were getting dressed - when one of the girls was muttering the same “I just want it over now,” pessimism - that kind of mindset can only be his direct influence.

The race to a second chance for all five of the remaining teams started from the pitstop in Costa Rica with racers sprinting to a cove where they had to swim to find their first clue in claustrophic-looking weather.

Within moments the Paolo’s battle to stay in the game began when Tony almost drowned and needed to be saved by a boat carrying life jackets. I don’t know why he decided to swim but because I like him so much I don’t think it was a bad idea although I did get very worried something was gonna happen to him.

He pushes himself too much don’t you think? After carrying those bananas it’s as if he thinks he’s invincible and while he constantly encourages his Moanies to make the most kickbutt choices it still stresses me out.

After the swim everyone got instructions to travel two and half hours to a funeral hotel where they Detoured, choosing between stacking sugar-cane or painting a wheel.

In true wimp-out style the Bransen dad was very pleased to spend hours painting a wheel which was the most ridiculous choice out of the two. The Paolo’s and Linz’s chose the sugar-cane and the Godlewski’s and Weavers joined the Bransen’s.

From there everyone had to fly to Arizona which is when the Pink Ladies got the break that resulted in them finishing first when one of the connecting flights they’d booked wouldn’t show up on the system. They dashed to a different airport and managed to catch an earlier plane which put them firmly in the lead when they hit the Arizona heat.

You could literally feel how sappingly dry it was as they travelled to face the grooviest, most rigorous Roadblock of the season so far. Those carting cars were excellent, as was the fact that they had to do 50 laps – but the very bestest was that the Weavers had to face a race-track again and speed it. They’ve officially made it totally impossible for me to feel even a smidgen of sympathy for them.

Their self-absorption and every single thing they do really has become too much to watch. Them cornering and confronting D Paolo at the airport about the Yield, glaring at him through bloodshot eyes as if it wasn’t a game but rather a personal affront has go down as the nastiest moment of the race so far.

Also hectically grim was how they immediately swarmed that guy who was helping Linda Weaver get into the car telling him about their dad’s death – it was such an unnecessary and selfish thing to do. How exactly was he supposed to respond to it and what business was it of his?

They constantly surround themselves in their tragedy forcing people respond to them in a careful ways which is such a manipulative thing to do I actually don’t know how the rest of the racers are as nice to them as they are.

The worst of it was the things they had to say about the Pink Ladies when they tried to help them feel okay about being at the track. Just re-picturing it makes my brain want to explode at the extent of their evil with that - firstly getting the sisters to give them moral support and hugs and sympathy and then turning around and calling them liers!

I reckon they could be psychotic - that kind of twisted desire to attack someone who’s only tried to be kind to you under tricky circumstances is not the behaviour of a normal person.

The only one who might have a chance out of their hell is Rolly-son who as yet hasn't muttered one word except whispered ones when his eyes are closed in prayer. I feel a bit sorry for him - what chance does he actually have?

And for all this they’re unfairly rewarded with finishing second. I was thrilled when the Godboobies beat them and pleased for them generally. I know they make huge amounts of annoying noise but even so, they’ve done brilliantly for an all girl team travelling without money or luxuries. Where were their sacks this week? It looks like they’ve dumped them?

With this elimination out of the way the final three is not far away and I’m super sorted with who I want the finale teams to be – the Godlewski’s, the Linz’s most defs and I really, really want the Paolo’s to hang in there for it but I’m terrified they won’t.
