After a quick recap of events in the previous episode we are taken to Day 7 at the Aguila camp site.

Day 7

Brigitte comments that she misses Sam, “I miss him a lot man, I feel sorry for him”. Jude explains in her interview why Sam was chosen to go home, she says it came down to Sam or Mzi and as Mzi had constantly been catching fish and providing food for the tribe he deserved to stay. If Sam and Mzi hadn’t knocked heads Sam probably wouldn’t be gone.

Mzi demonstrates their fishing rods. They have melted lead that washed up on the beach to make their own sinkers and constructed their own makeshift fishing rod. Aguila is still managing to catch fish fairly easily. Vanessa comments that she is actually full from all the fish they’ve been eating.

Rana:
Still no fire, they are trying everything to get the fire going but nothing has worked yet.

Reward Challenge

Mark welcomes the tribes and informs Rana that Sam had been voted out at TC the night before.

The game that the survivors will be playing is called “The Stake””. It is a flat out race across the sand to claim a stake. Tribe mates will compete against each other to reach the stakes first, there will always be one less stake than participants. Teams must choose who will take part and represent their tribes, Rana struggle to choose their three champions.

Sanele, Mzi and Brigitte from Aguila are chosen and Gareth, Zayn and Jacinda from Rana are decided upon.

There are three items available for reward: mosquito nets, a utility knife and flint. The winning tribe can choose two of the three items.

Brigitte is eliminated after the first round, Mzi falls out after round two. Round three and Zayn is eliminated. Jacinda falls out after round four leaving Gareth versus Sanele in the final. Sanele is in the lead from the beginning and Aguila takes reward.

Aguila chooses the mosquito nets and utility knife. They are very happy with their win and spirits are very high. Nico says the win has prepared them mentally for the immunity challenge the next day.

Rana returns to camp after their loss where they hold a post-mortem to discuss the failure. Lezel mentions the confusion regarding choosing who would take part in the challenge especially as she would have liked to participate. It was already decided who would take part in the challenge so it was better to stick with their initial decision. Jacinda says, “There was confusion, ja, but we decided upon the person and then we moved on.”

The tide is moving right up to Rana’s camp, they blame the encroaching waves on the full moon and believe the tide will now move out as it has passed. Ncumisa is irritated with the rest of the tribe as she has been warning about this for 5 days and no one listened to her. She would like the tribe to plan ahead in case they lose their camp.

Day 8

Mzi and Sanele sustained shoulder injuries during the reward challenge. “We didn’t think they were that serious yesterday, but this morning ey-ey” says Sanele.

Aguila discuss food and how much they would like some fruit. They have realised that fruit on their island isn’t as plentiful as on Rana’s.

At Rana Ncumisa is desperate to win the immunity challenge as she feels the most vulnerable in her tribe. Zayn, Lezel and Ncumisa chat about staying close, but Lezel confesses to the camera that she is also close to Gareth and Jacinda and to Danielle; however she does feel the safest with Zayn and Ncumisa. Ncumisa feels that Zayn defers to Lezel so that is a good alliance to be in, she also thinks Gareth will be the easiest swayed to their side so she is setting out to get to know him better.

Immunity Challenge

At the immunity challenge Mark asks for the idol back. He explains that team work is a vital part of survival. The game they are about to play will find out how far along their team work is.

The challenge is called “The Swing”, one member of each tribe is fitted into a harness and suspended from a tripod. The rest of the team will pull and steer their team mate to collect skulls buried in the arena. Once skulls are collected they will need to be placed on blocks. The first tribe to place all their skulls on the blocks will win the round. The tribes will compete for best of three rounds to win immunity. Lezel steps up for Rana and Vanessa is chosen for Aguila. Rana win the first round. Aguila evens things out by winning the second round.

It all comes down to the third and final round to determine who will win immunity. Things are very evenly placed between the two teams but Rana manages to pull ahead and wins immunity.

At Aguila everyone is unhappy they are going back to Tribal Council again. Sanele feels he is one of the people in the hot seat because of the pain he has in his arm, he feels the injury is quite serious. The tribe worries about Jude while she sleeps, she is feeling very weak and drained. Jude comments that she normally suffers from low blood pressure, but it feels lower than normal. The tribe insists she eats more, but as there is nothing with iron or magnesium she knows it won’t make a difference. She has put herself up to be voted off as she knows that she won’t be worth anything in 3 days time. Mzi doesn’t want her to go and wants her to hang on. Brigitte is disappointed that she is giving up so easily. Vanessa is surprised as she saw Jude going all the way to the end.

“I’m going weak, let me tell you that, I’m going weak, I feel like crying and I haven’t cried in six years”, Jude says as she starts crying. “Your health and well being comes first” says Mzi. Jude is very disappointed but she knows herself and that she isn’t strong enough.

Tribal Council

Jude is given the opportunity to say goodbye to her tribe mates. The tribe believes that they are finished at Tribal Council, but Mark announces that voting will still take place.

Nico receives the majority of the votes, but won’t go home. It is announced that at their next tribal council he will already have one vote in the urn.

Voting:
Nico – Brigitte, Mzi, Sanele, Vanessa
Brigitte – Nico

Jude’s closing words
“What I’m going to remember is what the people said about me in the council this evening, how they perceived me. We are never open to each other to say that you do this and you do that and you bring the spirit up and you do this, what each and every person said there tonight is straight in my heart and I will keep that as a good memory.“

Next week:
Nico is furious about the votes he received. Rana continues to struggle without fire.
