In case you’re wondering how I, The Lady got my groove back, wonder no more for I definitely wont tell you anyway. All I can say is, it's good to be back! Now let’s get down to business. Ads! Ads! Ads or should I say adverts! Adverts! Adverts! Naa! It doesn’t sound right. I don’t look at the ad break as an opportunity to take a quick loo break or to grab a quick bite to eat from the kitchen, but enough about me….
Guys don’t you just love the Nedbank Children’s Affinity Account advert? It is that one where street children poignantly encourage shoppers to buy items ranging from bread and milk to blue eye shadows and long lasting hair colour (in burgundy nogal!) by asking people to use Nedbank Children’s Affinity credit card, debit card or cheque book. For every rand spend, Nedbank will make a contribution to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. I love their ending where this cute little girl finishes by saying ‘Cause I’m worth it’. This ad won the most favourite award, the ‘Everyone’s Loerie’ Award. It has been beautifully conceived and beautifully executed. Kid’s performance is totally outstanding.
Whilst we still embracing our children’s talent, let’s look at the Danone Clover ad. Children who suffer from cancer act this ad out. There’s a director, actress, make-up artist, lawyer and a doctor. This ad always gives me goose bums, it really touches me. From every Danon Clover product you purchase, Danone will donate 5c and the money will be used by CHOC childhood cancer foundation to purchase a house that will create a home away from home for young cancer patients. I’m totally inspired by the relevance in this ad. So guys just go out there and buy a clover Danon, it’s for a good course.
The other ad is the Illovo Sugar ad. These children are playing in an old skororo outstide. Magogo(old lady) just made herself a cup of tea and poured Illovo sugar. After drinking it she goes outside to where the boys are playing. Apparently the radio in this old car or should I just stick with iskororo is functioning properly, so when Magogo approaches the car, these boys are so petrified, thinking ugogo is going to bawl at them for making such noise. Suprise surprise!! The old reaches inside the car and turn the volume up, and then she does this foshizzee my homey kinda style. Pay off line: ILLOVO E GRANT!!! It’s a fun ad, but is it really portraying the right message? If so what message is that, does it mean if you eat Illovo sugar you are going to be funky? Or does it just mean you will be active. The message in this ad is not really that clear and that can’t be good for RoA(return on advertisement)
I nearly forgot two of my fave ads, the Uthingo boardroom ad. The first one the boss calls Lizzy into the office (Lizzy is the PA).He wants Lizzy to draft a letter to Mr Sithole. She is suppose to write down the details of the letter as the boss utters them. The boss goes like ‘Dear Mr. Sithole’ then Lizzy in a very funny or should I say cheeky tone repeats after the boss ‘dear Mr. Sithole’. Obviously the boss is annoyed by that and says ‘I beg your pardon’ then Lizzy repeats after the boss in that cheeky tone ‘I beg you pardon’, thereafter she throws tantrums: Lizzy where’s my sport car, Lizzy did you phone my wife, Lizzy this, Lizzy Lizzy Lizzy prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Then she left the office dancing and very jubilant, with a winning lotto ticket in her hand. How many of you ever wished for a day like that? Bet on lotto and stop wishing!!!HABA
