Survivor SA Panama Summary
Episode 11

After a quick recap of events in the previous episode we are taken to Day 23 where Vanessa is transported to Dead Mans Island.

Day 23

As Vanessa meets up with Brigitte and Mzi, they celebrate the reuniting of their Aguila tribe.

At Burba, the final four are now fighting for themselves alone. Gareth feels he has the best relationship with Zayn, while Jacinda and Lezel agree to stand by one another. Lezel feels Zayn has hung onto Gareth’s coattails and he hasn’t done anything worthwhile. Everyone realises the next Immunity Challenge is vital in determining the final 3 and the way the game is going to develop. Lezel says she won’t go without a fight and will not shy away from causing drama.

Gareth finds a pelican on the beach and considers for a short time whether he should try catching it. He decides to kill the bird as food is too important at this point. With Jacinda’s help they catch and kill the pelican. Gareth feels terrible after killing the bird and promises he will never do anything like this again. He can’t believe how different it was compared to killing a fish.

Reward Challenge

Mark congratulates the ex-Rana tribe for reaching the final four. To celebrate their success he has a reward for each person, loved ones at home have prepared a video message for each of them.

Zayn goes first and watches a message from his mom. She tells Zayn he is her hero and she worries what he is eating there and if he can cook rice now.

Gareth has a video from his girlfriend who misses him so much and is very excited he has done so well. She also has words for him from his family.

Jacinda’s folks tell her how proud they are of her and she will always be their hero and survivor.

Lezel’s mom conveys her pride in her and is determined to get some fat on her when she returns.

The reward challenge takes place on the beach after each person has watched their video. The challenge will be a duel between two survivors over six rounds. In each round two survivors’ feet will be attached to the other players, left foot to left foot and right foot to right foot. During the round they are not allowed to touch any part of the other person.

The prize will be a live video chat with their loved ones in Johannesburg. The survivor’s families are waiting in SA for the results of the challenge to see who will get a chat with their Survivor.

The person who wins the most rounds wins the challenge. If it is a tie, there will be a sudden death final.

1st round: Gareth versus Jacinda where Gareth wins the first bout.
2nd round: Lezel versus Zayn where Lezel unseats Zayn easily.
3rd round: Gareth versus Zayn with Zayn falling over.
4th round: Jacinda versus Lezel with Lezel hitting the ground first.
5th round: Jacinda versus Zayn with Jacinda eventually falling over.
6h round: Gareth versus Lezel with Gareth falling over and Lezel ties the challenge with Gareth 3-all.

There is a sudden death final between Gareth and Lezel. Gareth twists Lezel up and she falls down, Gareth wins 15 minutes of live internet chat with his girlfriend.
Gareth’s girlfriend asks him what the first thing is he wants to do when he gets back home. Gareth says he wants to take her out to supper so they can eat something. He explains to her how they eat and catch food and how he is generally coping. They express their love for each other and how much they’re missing one another. He finishes off by thanking her for hanging on for him.

The messages from home rejuvenate the spirit and help the survivors to believe they can carry on. Invigorating is the word Lezel uses and feels her message has given her some mojo back. Jacinda felt she could carry on for 2 weeks after the video, but as soon as she gets back to camp and has to try and tend the fire, she isn’t too sure.

At DMI the remaining contestants are very bored and feel that DMI is the worst part of Survivor so far. Brigitte admits she hasn’t felt homesick until this point, but night 23 seems to be the roughest so far. Vanessa agrees with her. They will be going hungry for the night as there is nothing to eat due to the fact that they haven’t found or caught anything.

Day 24

The Burba tribe is tense as there is an Immunity Challenge and whoever wins will dictate who they take through to the final 3. Winning the immunity challenge will make the winner the swing vote, which Gareth feels is a double-edged sword. Lezel will target Zayn if he doesn’t win immunity, but her ultimate aim is to win immunity for herself. She will try swing Gareth over to her if she can. Lezel really wants to get to top 3 and she is determined to do whatever she can to reach that point.

It is a hard time for the tribe to do a physical challenge as the body is at its weakest explains Zayn. The men have decided to vote for whichever girl doesn’t win immunity. If that is the case, it could be a split vote.

Immunity Challenge

As Burba arrives for the Immunity Challenge, Mark asks Gareth how motivating the live chat was with his girlfriend. He admits it was motivating, but also made him very homesick.

Mark begins to explain what will take place during the Immunity Challenge. As fire is crucial to staying alive in the game it will play a huge part in the days Challenge.
The survivors have to light a fire on the beach, once the fire is going they must light a torch and run down the beach into the water and swim to a raft. At the raft is a rope where they must use the fire to burn through the rope to release a key, once the key is released they must swim back to shore and use the key to unlock the lock at the base of a structure. Only the first two who return from the raft will continue on to the second level where they must unlock the lock, climb to the second level of the structure and light a second fire. Once the fire is going they must light their torch and continue to the cauldron at the top. The first person to place their flame in the cauldron will win immunity.

The challenge begins and while Gareth is the first to light his fire, Jacinda is the first to keep her fire going and run out to the water. She is closely followed by Gareth but reaches the raft first and begins to burn her rope. Zayn heads out to the water, but Jacinda has her key released first. Gareth has his key before Zayn reaches the raft as well. Gareth and Jacinda reach the structure and unlock their locks first. Jacinda removes her chain and begins with her second fire before Gareth. Gareth catches up as Jacinda is struggling with the flint. Gareth lights his torch first and heads to the top cauldron to win immunity. He has now won immunity for the fourth time.

Back at the Burba camp Jacinda and Lezel discuss what to do. They won’t vote against each other, and decide to vote for Zayn. If it is a two-two vote, Lezel says they will have to see what happens.

Lezel decides to focus on Gareth as he is the swing vote and she will spend as much time with him leading up to TC as possible. Lezel tells Gareth that she will be a better person to have next to him at the end as Jacinda is very proactive and more of a threat, sitting next to Jacinda, Gareth may not win the million she thinks. Gareth asks Lezel if she would vote for Jacinda, but she won’t commit to an answer unless that is the offer that is on the table. Lezel says she will consider it as an option if it means she will stay in the game.

At DMI Vanessa explains what the last immunity challenge was to Brigitte and Mzi. They can’t believe Mzi’s bad luck at missing the fishing challenge. The others are shocked that Gareth caught so many fish as he didn’t catch any other fish before.

Vanessa believes the men are playing like school kids making promises to their friends and if they had played a real game they would have voted the girls out and been in a stronger position with Jacinda and Lezel out of the way.

Lezel is trying to make Zayn see that Jacinda is the strongest opponent facing them all at the moment. Lezel tells Zayn that she doesn’t think that Gareth has made up his mind between her and Jacinda. Zayn finds her cunning worrying, and he is trying to understand what she is saying. Will she vote for Jacinda? But she won’t tie herself down to anything, she wants Gareth and Zayn to come to her with the offer for her to accept. Lezel feels she has had a close relationship with Gareth, right from the start of the game.

Jacinda tells Gareth that if she goes through to the final 3 she will only take Gareth through with her to the final 2. Lezel thinks Gareth wants to be Mr Nice Guy and he doesn’t want to take responsibility for instigating that Lezel be the next person to go. Gareth tells Zayn and Jacinda that he approached all three of them regarding how they would feel about going to the final 2 with him, and Lezel is the only person who didn’t come back to him, so what is he supposed to think of that?
