-Ratings Breakdown:
As expected, CBS was the most-watched network on Sunday, with an advantage over second-place ABC of 1.04 million viewers. But since CBS’ regularly scheduled Sunday line-up began at 7:22 p.m. ET, individual fast national results by show are excluded. What follows is a repeat of the CBS overnight analysis:
Note: due to an NFL Football overrun, CBS’ regularly scheduled Sunday line-up, which ranked first in the overnights, began at 7:22 p.m. On that note (and following a 13.7/21 for football in the 7 p.m. half hour), 60 Minutes kicked-off the evening with a dominant 13.7/21 from 7:15-8:15 p.m. That led into The Amazing Race 10 at a third-place 8.8/13 in the overnights from 8:15-9:15 p.m., followed by Cold Case (#3, 10.0/14 from 9:15-10:15 p.m.) and Without A Trace (#1, 10.5/17 from 10:15-11:15 p.m.).
ABC finished first overall among adults 18-49 and second in total viewers care of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 10.76 million; A18-49: #3, 3.1 rating/8 share), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #1, 15.39 million; A18-49: #1, 5.4/13), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #1, 21.65 million; A18-49: #1, 8.6/19) and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #2, 13.21 million; A18-49: #1, 5.5/14). Retention this week for the increasingly addictive Brothers & Sisters out of Desperate Housewives was still modest at 61 percent in total viewers and 64 percent among adults 18-49.
Over at NBC, the San Diego vs. Denver match-up on Sunday Night Football was below-average (but still on the map) at an approximate 12.68 million viewers and a 4.8/12 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Football Night in America, the pre-game, averaged an also estimated 8.47 million viewers with a 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49.
The FOX comedies were also all below average. On FOX at 7:00pm The Simpsons (Repeat) pulled in 3.75 million viewers (ranked #4), A18-49: #4, 1.5/ 4 and at 7:30pm American Dad (Repeat) pulled in 5.73 million viewers and also ranked #4, A18-49: 2.7/ 7 #4. New episodes of The Simpsons at 8pm pulled in 9.31 million viewer which ranked 4th in its timeslot and pulled in 4.4/11 Adult 18-49 Demographic which ranked 2nd tie for FOX. At 8:30pm, American Dad drew 8.25 million viewers and A18-49: 3.9/ 9 (#3t). At 9pm Family guy pulled in a strong 9.26 million viewers and an equally strong 4.6/10 demo which ranked third. However The War at home battled to retain Family Guy’s numbers and managed only to hold on to 71% viewers and 70% demo retention which put The War At Home as a Nights Loser. The episode posted 6.55 million viewers and ranked fourth just over The CW’s encore of America’s Next Top Model which drew 1.86 million viewers and a 0.82/ A18-49 demo. The War at Home posted a 3.2/7 (#4) demo.
Finally, the two-episode return of Reba in the 7pm hour gave the CW some mileage with an average 3.88 million viewers and a 1.4/ 4 among adults 18-49. Compared to the final telecasts of sitcoms Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: 2.36 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3) and All of Us (Viewers: 2.40 million; A18-49: 1.0/ 3) in the hour on Oct. 8, this was an increase of an ample 1.50 million viewers and 40 percent among adults 18-49. With an improved lead-in, 7th Heaven hit a season-high, with 4.54 million viewers and a 1.7/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. Unfortunately, the momentum stopped at 9 p.m., with a repeat of America’s Next Top Model at 1.86 million viewers and a 0.8/ 2 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m.
