Soon after Monkey World started rescuing the chimps, they received calls that some orangs needed rescuing. So they decided to take in the "destitute" orangs. Not only that the orangs needed rescuing, but also that the orang is now an extremely endangered species and so Monkey World decided to use the opportunity to try and save the species by having them reproduce.
The female only has a baby every 7 to 8 years and carries for approximately 9 months, much the same as the human female. The female orang develops during her pregnancy much the same as the human female. Where other animal species become rounded, the orang gets the distinct bump in her belly.
There is a very distinct difference between the male and female. The male has huge cheeks called phalanges whereas the female doesn't have this.

The orang is a primate that lives in Southeast Asia (Sumatra and Borneo). Once again poachers kill off the mother and take the baby to sell to people who think these make good pets. But they don't. These primates grow into very large "lumps of lard" and it is said that once they reach adulthood they have the strength of 8 grown men. So what in heavens name do these people think they are doing should this placid primate decide enough is enough and get angry?
The orang is somewhat shy and live alone and large territories. This is because of their large appetites. The only time that you will find 2 orangs together, is when the mother has her baby which normally lives with her for about 7 years. The male will only be with her for a few days when mating. The orang has a life span of about 50 years.
In Monkey World there are 6 adults and 6 little whipper snappers. Gordon being the oldest, 9 years. He is the more energetic of the whole gang of orangs in Monkey World.
These primates show very little emotion and the female is a walking hormonal timebomb when pregnant. If you thought the human species could sullk, you should see the female when she's pregnant LOL.
The orang diet consists of fruit, seeds, leaves, tree bark, plant bulbs, tender plant shoots and flowers. They also eat insects and small animals, like birds and small mammals.
Because the orangs at Monkey World are "orphaned", they do not know how to raise their young when they give birth. So they will just ignore the baby not knowing what to do. The keepers at Monkey World raise the young till about a year and then start reintergrating the baby with the others.
Of course this raises the question as to whether this is just a vicious circle because the one little female, Hsaio-Ning now thinks she's human. She is now about 18 months and wants to know nothing about the others. When she was a year old, they put her into the nursery with all the toys and ropes for her to play and climb. Now at 18 months they take her to the orang enclosure and she watches the others through a "meshing". She clearly doesn't want to know anything. But then neither do the others show any emotion and couldn't be bothered that there is another orang on the other side LOL. My take is that Hsaio-Ning is one spoilt little girl. She will have to start realising soon that she is not human and needs to be with her kind. Oh well, that's what you get when you interfere with nature eh?

This is Hsaio-Ning. Now tell me that is not a spoilt little girl LOL.
I will be blogging about the other primates at Monkey World soon.
That's all folks.
