Episode 301“Tale of two Cities”I guess I can stop whooping now. Oh hell, maybe just one more happy dance for the road! Lost is back! And what an agonizing wait it has been. I’m just so happy to have Lost back that I am willing to overlook the faults of the season’s opening episode.
So, Henry Gale’s name is Ben, and he is the man in charge! I’m afraid he’ll never be anything other than “Henry Gale” or “Fake Henry” to me. The name Ben doesn’t do him justice. He just looks like a Henry Gale to me, or maybe a Gustav, or Bruce… but not Ben. *
Since I started with Henry Gale, ermm, I mean Ben, I’ll continue with Ben and the Others. I really didn’t expect their little village to be so modern and so picturesque. I figured that they would be living in a little village, but I was expecting something similar to the camp Michael was being held in during Season 2. And I also didn’t expect the Others to be so suburban either. I was honestly expecting some sort of crazy hick family living in log cabins and shooting wild bear and foraging in the jungle for food. Shows how great my intuition is.
The real Wisteria Lane.Well, at least now I know how they knew a plane had crashed. Duh. I should have figured that a crashing plane could be heard. And we get to see Henry Gale… I mean Ben (this is going to take some getting used to) barking out orders at Ethan and Goodwin. And oh goody… we finally see some Stephen King – Carrie, if I am not mistaken.
I like old Ben. Yep, I do, but not as much as I am liking that new character named Juliet. She’s an Other, and it seems that Jack has finally met his match with her. Hah. It’s about time someone stood up to Jackass. Juliet’s assignment, it seems, was to either get Jackass to cry (and that isn’t that hard to do, you know) or to “break” him. And she did it in style.
The Man formerly known as Henry GaleI find it close to impossible to feel any kind of sympathy for Jackass. I feel more for his father. Jackass proved to be as stubborn and as pig-headed as ever as we viewed what is supposed to be an emotional time in Jackass’s life. I’ll give you just a brief summary of Jackass’s flashback – He’s getting divorced but is totally obsessed with finding out who Sara is seeing, going as far as calling all the numbers on her cell phone and accusing his father (who had been sober for 50 days) of sleeping with her.
Family love!I don’t understand Jackass’s constant need to always be in control. He doesn’t seem to realize that he’s bringing about his own downfall by always wanting things his way. I guess what they are trying to make us think about Jackass is that he feels that if he is always in control then things can’t go wrong. Tsk tsk. Jackass is an intelligent man, and I can’t believe he can be short-sighted enough to imagine he can control his destiny … fate … or the circumstances that surround him… I guess the one twinge of emotion that I did feel for Jackass was when he asked Juliet if Sara is happy.
Shower time at the Others camp!Meanwhile on the other side of the camp, Kate got to shower. Either she smelt way worse that Jackass or Sawyer, or Zeke just wanted perve over her. So Kate and Ben end up breakfasting on the beach. It seemed like a nice breakfast date to me, but Ben had other things on his mind. And No, the shock pairing of the season is not Ben-Kate, but rather Ben wanted to give Kate some nice memory to hang on too. Aww. How sweet. Not! I wonder what he’s got in store for them.
Dating 101: The Other StyleSawyer, meanwhile, is being kept in a cage! In a cage!!! Did I need any more proof that Sawyer is an alpha-male? Nope. The cage sealed it … not that it would have mattered anyway, he’s still hot! The sweetest moment of the episode was when Sawyer gave Kate his fish-biscuit. All together now – Awwwwww! That was sooo adorable. See. Sawyer is not that bad after all.
I just liked this picture, it serves no purpose other than gratuitous Sawyer gazing. While Kate and Sawyer may be imprisoned in cages opposite each other, I wonder if they will get to see Jack. Will they escape? And let’s face it, even if they do escape, can they outrun, out hide or outwit the Others?? So many more questions. And why has there been no mention of Sayid, Charlie, Desmond and the rest of the Losties. I really want to know what’s going on with that lot too. I just want to see Charlie.
What did we learn from this week’s episode?
• Jackass is a stubborn jerk. But hey, I already knew that so it’s not new.
• Juliet looks like Penny (Desmond’s Penny). In fact, when I first saw Juliet, I thought that it was Penny.
• Fake Henry’s name is Ben, and he is the leader of the pack. But here again, it was alluded to in the Season 2 finale, so we can’t say that it’s new. But he does look nice in that purplish striped shirt. Hmmm. Is it wrong to think that Ben is hot in an evil kind of way?
• Kate and Sawyer have it bad for each other. Here again,
so not new. Poor Jackass. He’ll be stalking these two soon.
• The Others live in their little piece of suburbia heaven. Who knew that the island was even that large??
• We meet Karl, who could be an Other, or he could be one of the kidnapped tailes. I’m leaning more towards him being an Other.
• Zeke looks better with his hillbilly costume. Sorry dude, you just do.
• There are sharks and dolphins at the Hydra Station.
• Ben is not averse to letting one of his own die. But here I am conflicted. Was it part of the elaborate act to break Jackass, or was he really just trying to save his own neck?
• We haven’t seen any of the other Losties, but can assume that they are at least alive as all their names appeared in the opening credits!
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you’ll notice that I have changed the format of it. There are, literally, millions of sites around where you could a transcript of the episode.
