OH OH OH!!!! Damn I’m proud of this year’s Awards Ceremony!! From the gorgeous outfits rocked by some to the bombly live performances, the SAMA’s were king baba!!!
You're sitting down right? Please take a second and give
Kabelo "Dilika Bantwana" Mabalane a standing ovation for the awesome job he did in hosting the 13th Annual MTN SAMA's at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday, 14th April 2007.
Done? Okay now please look at how gorgeous he was in that suit.
Was it tailored especially for him?? Methinks it was.
Okay, I know the headline sponsor was MTN but did they reallly have to make him wear those yellow shoes? Was it his idea?
Either way, the fashion police aren't gonna give you bail if they catch you looking like that baba...
You should stop taking advice from Siyabonga Ngwekazi!!
As for the incomplete "strip show" he gave us during the show,
"Boy, didn't anybody teach you anything about "satisfying" a gal?"
As he continued to take off bits and bits of his clothes because he was feeling 'hott", the screams were getting louder and louder and suddenly Kabelo is "done"! I wanted to die!!
Yho, Kabelo was definitely one of the best presenters we've had for the SAMA's. Yes, he was given a script but I'm pretty certain much of it was him coz he was so on point! I loved him. No, I love him!!
When he was about to come on stage, the gals and I held hands and took deep breaths coz we were so nervous about what was gonna happen with him on that stage but it's like I saw a diffferent Kabelo altogether!!
Great things are coming his way after this. I say so!!!
You see, even Mr. Millionaire himself was impressed.
Dr Precious Moloi is always looking great and I really don't understand how Patrice always manages to go out with those shirts.
Where the hell does he get them from? Even Papa G's shirts look better!
Ooh that tie papa.
You're cute as hell though and I still want you to be my shuga daddy...
Do you guys recognize Pushie in that picture? She was there looking like the wifey that she is...She's alll grown up now and I wonder what she's up to these days.
THE SAMA SHOWDOWN
The show started kicked off nicely with Soweto Gospel Choir taking to the stage with a stunner of a perfomance but when Shwi Nomtekhala came on the sound messed up half of their perfomance but they carried on and managed to get our minds off the sound.
I hope somebody got into trouble for that little error.
Big Up to the Lighting guys and whoever was responsible for the graphics, I was hella impressed with them.
Jozi came out to perform their hit track "what's with da attitude" and you know we was screaming like mad, right!!
Didn't know Bongani could dance like that!! And people should stop referring to Ishmael as "The Old guy in Jozi". C'mon people, haven't you ever heard of the saying "
Ku gug' othandayo?" Leave Ish alone.
As for this supposed queen of Gospel, who happened to take her 12th SAMA, glad you took my advice and did something with that hair. You were beautiful and really looked like you were in 2007. Oops, make that 2006 coz Bassie already wore that exact same outfit back in 2006.
Basetsana at the 2006 Golden Plumes Awards
Eish sorry Ribs, didn't Sun Goddess (
or whoever) tell you???
So gals, is this outfit worn with or without the neck accessory?? I'm too much of a "bare/plain" fan to can give a fair assessment.
Rebecca Malope, when a crowd boos you, they mean that you are boring them. What was up with the preaching on stage when your job was to announce the best selling artist??
And to the SAMA committee, if you want people to start throwing missiles during the SAMA's then go ahead and give Rebecca Malope another "Best Gospel Award" next year.
Don't say I didn't warn you and if I'm around then better seat me far away from the stage coz I damn well will be the first one to throw a fit or two if that happens.
Anyway, Shwi Nomtekhala were announced as 2006 Best Selling Artist and my next question was
"Kanti, didn't DJ Sbu say HE was the most selling artist in the country???"
As Ladysmith Black Mambazo would say :
"
Who's fooling who, Who's fooling the who???" Sfunukwazi baba!
P.S. If anyone had told me that groupies were allowed on stage like those two gals in white suits were allowed, then I would have gone up there to give Kabelo a hug during the strip tease.
Lira's music video, the same one I praised like hell, took the award for Best Music Video and you know what my thoughts were.
Does anyone know why we had to listen to Buyile reading out his CV? Why do people have to treat presenting awards as acting auditions mara heh?
If Zamajobe & Zama Ngcobo were auditioning during their stint then I'll be happy to inform them that they are the stars of my new movie,
Bad Actors Gone Wild.
Stick to your day jobs gals and don't expect a call up at next year's event. You f****d up big time. Don't you watch award shows??
Trompies, who were yet again snubbed by the SAMA committee, performed the song dedicated to Lebo, Madibuseng and they were joined by Mafikizolo on stage.
I really hoped that they would at least get "Best Group" award. I mean, it's not like Mafikizolo needed it! They won Best Afro Pop and Best Compilation DVD, never mind that I've never heard of that DVD but then again, my ignorance is not their problem.
Can somebody please ask Theo to stop with the "pull up jacket move" Kunini??
I've never realized just how short he is!
Casette received their award for Best English Rock Album and I love their look. Nothing like these american/european rockers. This is clean.
I loved their kinda "
James Brown" perfomance with Vusi Mahlasela, boy that was nice.
I can't believe Vusi has moves like that, phela we always see him with the guitar.
Bra Vusi deservedly walked away with the Best Male Artist award!
Bra Vusi seems like a wise man so I would really like him to speak to Arthur about how he's forever dragging that little child everywhere he goes.
This is a SAMA 2006 picture but he was there with her again this year and Chomee was the babysitter.
She was up and down with Owami the whole time and the awards ended at 22:30 and the poor soul was there dancing with all of us. It's not my business but I just think she should be left to live her life like the child that she is.
At least Beyonce's father waited till she was a bit older before pushing her to the industry like that.
This year's Sympathy Award went to Danny
"I wanna be like JT" K and forgive me bhuti but for asking but wasn't Jamali in the same category? So how does Danny Koekemoer, win it??
What would the SAMA"s be without a bit of drama? I think they do it on purpose!!!!
Mafikizolo collected their Best Afro Pop/Best Group Award looking very very gorge. Did anyone see Nhlanhla's lime bubble skirt?? Dayum!!!
My fav radio girl Dineo Ranaka from YFM came up on the stage with Kelly Khumalo to present the award for Best Kwaito.
Kelly sounded great, I was surprised. If any one thought she didn't, it's probably coz she was with Dineo.
That's what happens when you're with somebody as great as Dineo.
So, after hearing that people were expecting him to preach, he left it all out and used his acceptance speech to thank and praise the Lord.
Your God rocks mfana, if he makes people this gorgeous?? I'm going to church!!
First album and Siphokazi is already a multiple award winner. Too bad nobody's giving her some "media" training coz I heard she bore the living hell out of somebody who interviewed her recently.
The next time somebody asks her "What was your most embarassing moment?" I expect her answer to be:
"It was in 2007 when I was accepting my award for Best Newcomer. I took out my long list of people that I wanted to thank and because I talk slowly and am a boring speaker, the crowd started booing me and I mistook it for them spurring me on so I carried on and on until their noise got too loud for me to even hear what I was saying so I eventually kept quiet."
Lee Kasumba, I love you gal but damn, what was up with the dress you wore when presenting Best Hip Hop/Rap to damn Flabba.
Somebody please help explain why Flabba won and not Tumi or Proverb?
Siyabonga Ngwekazi almost lit up the stage when he came to introduce a Hip Hop Perfomance but some bright spark decided they were gonna make him stand behind the turn tables.
Anyway, the hip hop heads came to perform and I thought it was cool that they all came up on da stage like that.
Proverb perfomed Tumi's song, Tumi perfomed Zubs' song and Zubs perfomed Proverb's song. I loved it!!
That's hip hop, the best perfomance for me was the 3 kwaito kings, L'Vovo, Thebe & Kabelo all up on that stage!!! Damn man Kwaito is king of all genres!! L'vovo should have been in that Best Newcomer category, he was wronged!!!
And somebody who really wronged us was Bob Mabena coming on stage and almost putting us to sleep. He was talking so slowly, he coulda been mistaken for moruti wa Roma. No disrepect intended.
Unathi came on stage with DJ Sbu and she obviously liked what Bob did because she also talked at a snails' pace.
That was a damn gorgeous dress she had on. The peeps I was with weren't too sure about the colour but I loved it.
No prizes for guessing what Unathi's favourite colour is.
This is the number she wore at last year's Channel O Awards. Lovely.
Hold up, hold up, hold up! Simphiwe Dana has legs? Never mind that they are gorgeous but if anybody had told me that she was hiding something under those long dresses, I woulda believed them.
She walked away with Best Contemporary Jazz, Best Female and was not around when her album was announced as the Album of The Year. How uncool is that! Wandering around and not being available when you should be accepting such a huge award??
So how did Sbu know he was gonna win the Song of The Year award? Was this outfit change done to accept the award or was it for his so called "perfomance?"
I certainly hope it was for the "perfomance" .
What was up with him walking up and down like that when he should be acting like he's DJ-ing or something. That "hand clapping" and walk around stunt was clearly a wrong idea.
Either learn how to dance or stick to the turntable papa and oh! if you were really go to the trouble of changing, why couldn't you change into something better?
What happened to Sbu's style mense? Why was he trying to look like Cee Lo did at the Grammy's???
All in all, I thought it was a great show and I'd go as far as giving them an 8 out of 10.
What did you think of this year's ceremony? Good? Bad?
Holla!!
P.S. With every show comes an afterparty and you know I got you covered so check this space for a few of the 'afterparty" pics, my aftershow conversation or should I say, "fight" with Kabelo as well as a bit of Sizwe Dhlomo thrown in the mix. Is Kabelo sure about him being the babe magnet??
