Cousin Gert makes his get-away
With Cheryl finding out the truth about Gert’s infidelity, she leaves him with all the debts she incurred for the decorating of their flat. Gert is at his wits end, everybody wants money from him, Hilda is threatening to throw all his furniture out and Flooze expects to move in with him.
When Hilda casually mentions auctioning off his furniture, Gert secretly realises it’s a good idea and tells Hilda not to worry about a thing, the furniture will be out of her flat in no time.
Soon there are flyers floating around Hillside about an auction taking place at the community hall and Hilda and Oubaas are none the wiser. Before long Gert is throwing money around again, giving some to Flooze to spoil herself with, giving some to Maria and paying Oubaas his rent.
When Flooze tells Paula that she moved out of her place, Paula naturally assumes that she wants to move in with her but Flooze puts her mind at ease saying she only needs to wash the essentials before hitting the road on her bike with Gert. She tells Paula that she and Gert are going to Durban.
With Gert sneaking quietly out of town, his bills are piling up and the creditors are phoning like crazy demanding their money. Poor Oubaas does’nt know how to handle the situation and he and Maria decide not to open their door to anybody in case it’s a creditor. It’s also the first time I’ve heard Oubaas speaking ze English as he lies to the people on the other end of the phone line.
Hilda and Maria find out that Gert has sold all his furniture at an auction and has left town with his new girlfriend. Meanwhile Oubaas tells Hilda that they will have to cough up money for all Gert’s debts as he’s a Van Zyl just like them and the creditors are demanding their money from a Van Zyl.
Now I’ve never heard such crap in my life, since when are you responsible for another person’s debt just because your surname’s the same and you live at the same address? When Karien questions Oubaas he tells her about family honor and all that *bleep!*.
Oubaas lays the ground rules to Hilda and Maria that they will have to save every penny to pay off the debts. He even talks about them all getting second jobs and poor Hilda approaches Vince to sell the left over deli food to her at the end of the day but he gladly tells her to have it on the house. Times are tough in the Van Zyl house as Oubaas and Hilda share 1 sausage, 1 boiled egg and 1 slice of toast for breakfast. I could’nt help laughing when Maria used 1 teabag to make three cups of tea, that was too much or should I say too little.
When Diederik hears about the plight of the oldies, he decides to take matters into his own hands and offers to go through all the invoices to see if they really are liable for the debt. He brings good news the next day when he tells them they only need to cough up R71-12 for keys they had cut, furthermore all the invoices is total crookery on the part of the plumbers, electricians, tilers, etc.
Oubaas and Hilda are so happy, they decide to celebrate by telling Maria to fry a whole pack of viennas. Yep, all’s well in the Van Zyl house again.
The Beukes and Meintjies Drama
Things are strained in the Beukes household since Xander and Vanessa’s affair has come to light. Vanessa and her mother are barely on speaking terms and when they do speak it ends in a fighting match.
Vanessa accuses her mother of taking Felicity’s side and not seeing things from her perspective, she insists she did’nt purposely steal Felicity’s boyfriend, she fell inlove and that’s the only thing she’s guilty of.
Meanwhile Nellie is very excited about his upcoming nutptials but the same cannot be said for Charmaine. She worries constantly about the situation with the children and things are worsened when Xander and Vince come to blows in Oppiekoffie, right there in front of everyone.
Apparently after speaking to Vince, Vanessa went to Xander and told him she can’t see a future for them anymore. After he presses her, she tells him what Vince said about the possibility of him dumping her in the future and that is when Xander confronted his brother making an already sensitive situation even more so.
When Nellie hears of his sons’ fight in Oppiekoffie, he is furious and lays into them both but neither of the two are willing to apologise. When Charmaine tells Nellie to postpone their wedding until the situation improves, Nellie decides to take matters into his own hands and tells Charmaine not to worry, the wedding is going ahead as planned.
We then see Nellie approaching Vince, Xander, Vanessa and Felicity individually and telling them to meet up at Charmaine’s house that evening.
With everyone present, the tension in the room is so thick but Nellie goes ahead and tells them that what they are doing to Charmaine is unforgivable, they need to end this fight even if its only for the next two weeks till after the wedding, if not for their own sakes but for Charmaine so that they can get married without any obstacles in their way, its what they’ve all been waiting for, for a very long time.
The children all hang their heads in shame aka Bart Simpson style and they each apologise to Chamaine with Felicity hugging her and telling her not to worry. The only person not to respond to the proceedings is Vanessa who looks at her mother and Felicity with envy in her eyes.
The next day Charmaine is all smiles and in full wedding mode as she makes preparations for the wedding. Felicity tells her that she will be honoured to design her wedding dress and Hilda is all talk about the wedding cake she’s gonna bake. In fact everybody is excited about the wedding and Vanessa is the only one not able to share in the joy since nobody is really speaking to her except Xander.
Meanwhile Neville is getting constant calls from the organisers of the US tour, they want Nellie to come back and represent South Africa but he’s adamant that he’s got more important things in his life right now. He eventually decides to meet with them to discuss the matter.
Things get too much for Vanessa when she tells Xander she cannot cope with being painted the scarlet lady who stole her best friends’ guy, she feels like a complete outsider and cannot partake in all the excited talks about the upcoming wedding and the relaunch of the boutique. Everybody thinks she and Xander just have a casual thing going and she feels strongly that she needs to leave Hillside, she asks Xander if he’s coming with her or not. Naturally Xander agrees to support her and promises her, they will leave together. While alone, Xander phones a friend and calls in some favours.
Everybody is at the relaunch of the Boutique while Vanessa is alone at home feeling sorry for herself. When Xander arrives, he tells her to get her bag and I.D and come with him.
At the relaunch Charmaine and Neville wonder where Vanessa and Xander are. Imagine how shocked they will be when they find out their kids have eloped. Alexander Meintjies and Vanessa Beukes were saying “I do” at the Magistrates Office and afterwards they went to a fancy restaurant to celebrate, Vanessa still in her blue Deli uniform.
The next day the excited newlyweds cannot wait to be in each other’s arms but they have to do everything in secret. They realise they will have to get their own place and its time to tell their parents about their new status. Later that evening Xander and Vanessa meet on the second floor of the Heights and before long, Xander is carrying his bride over the threshold of their new home.
When Vanessa goes home, Charmaine is so excited to see her and tells her about her own latest developments. Apparently Neville came by earlier and told her that their wedding is going ahead as planned and that they are celebrating their honeymoon in the States, he spoke to the organisers and they agreed he could bring his new wife with him on his overseas tour.
Charmaine asks Vanessa if she could make breakfast for Marko and Diederik while she’s away but Vanessa breaks it to her that she’s moving in with Xander since the two of them got married the previous day. Charmaine looks on in shock and disappointment.
Re-launching the Boutique
Dezi, Felicity and Tessa are hectically busy with the arrangements for the re-launch of the Boutique. They decide to hold the fashion show between the Boutique, the arcade and Oppiekoffie.
As the Boutique will be catering for various tastes and styles, Dezi asks Zinzi to model the young and funky range, Tessa the up and coming range, Matrone to model the mature range and Karien the young and professional working woman range. Unfortunately Karien had a prior engagement with Metrosure so Dezi decides to ask Paula thereby getting free publicity as well.
We all know how demanding Matrone and Paula can be but Dezi just knows how to nip them in the bud and on the day of the photo shoot, it was comical seeing Matone doing various poses reminiscent of Hollywood stars of years gone by.
On the day of the launch, everything that can possibly go wrong, goes wrong and Tessa is in a total state. Dezi calms her down and like the professional she is, she quickly fans all the fires.
It’s the evening of the re-launch and everyone is dressed to the nines. Dezi and Felicity were looking extremely gorgeous in their gowns and before Dezi could utter a word, Oom Oubaas took over proceedings by saying a whole lot of winged words. JH seeing the distress in Dezi’s eyes, decides to cut Oom Oubaas short and hands the floor over to Dezi.
After thanking everybody for their patience, she announces the Boutique has reopened their doors and the modeling show begins. Coming down the red carpeted staircase first is Zinzi, followed by Paula then an extremely sexy looking Tessa and lastly Matrone.
The evening is a huge success although the clothing was as bright as ever but Hillside clearly loves it.
The next day Mandla comes over early to the Terreblanche house and excitedly shows Dezi and Felicity the article and pictures he printed. Altus also comes over to personally deliver his first invoice for services rendered.
It seems the publicity paid off because soon after the Boutique was bustling with customers and Dezi and Felicity could barely keep up.
Bruynwaves’ first big event
Altus and Danny are hectically busy with preparations for Benecke and Strumpff’s drag boat racing event. Unable to cope, Altus enlists Marko’s help in putting the event together since it was idea in the first place.
Marko agrees to help out but has his own way of doing business and it’s not exactly as professional as Altus would like but he seems to be getting the job done.
The day of the Benecke and Strumphff event finally arrives, there seems to be crisis after crisis and Marko is handling most of them in his not so diplomatic way, Altus has a worried look on his face imagining the event to be a huge disaster.
When the waiters for the event land up in an accident, Marko asks Charmaine if he can use Oppiekoffie’s waiters and she agrees. Another disaster averted, Marko seems to be the master of finding solutions to problems.
When everyone returns from the drag boat racing event, it seems Paula had a tough time while rowing as she looked the worse for wear. It seemed she was pushed and landed up in the lake but the event was a huge success and Bruynwaves celebrated with champers.
Methinks Marko will become a permanent feature at Bruynwaves as Altus toasts him.
Saving Theron & Terreblanche
Jan Hendrik has prepared well for his meeting with the bank. With Karien’s help he has an artist’s impression of what the fitness centre will look like and after going through everything with Xander, he was fully set for this important meeting.
After coming back from the bank, Dezi is anxious to hear how it all went and JH tells her that they were going to speak to their HO before giving him an answer. Dezi was positive that everything would work out okay but JH was not fully convinced.
The next day JH anxiously awaits the bank’s call but every call that comes to the house seems to be some or other crisis with the Boutique’s launch and one can see it’s clearly getting to him. His wife seems to be going full steam ahead with her business and here he is stuck waiting for the bank’s approval.
Time is going on and still JH has heard nothing. When Dezi and Felicity arrive home from their first day at the Boutique, Felicity suggest they celebrate at Cherry on Top but JH tells Dezi that they made prior dinner arrangements with another couple.
When Felicity excuses herself, Dezi tells JH she could not get a hold of him and he tells her he was at the bank the whole afternoon but his face tells her that the news is not good.
Dezi starts telling JH how sorry she is and before she could say anything further, sneaky JH tells her that he just had to get her alone to celebrate the good news with her. The bank has withdrawn the application and has given T&T six months to sort themselves out. An ecstatic Dezi rushes into her husbands arms congratulating him.
The secret life of Matrone’s dad
Ryno is desperate to unravel the mystery of Matrone’s past as he delves deeper and deeper into her father’s life. After many calls, it emerges that Marius Voges (Matrone’s dad) did not live at the boarding house as Matrone claimed but rather lived in his own house but when Ryno phones there, the house had been sold to new owners and they gave Ryno the name and number of their neighbour who’s lived there all her life.
Ryno then phones the lady and explains that he’s a writer trying to get more information about Marius Voges, the lady then gives Ryno some disturbing news.
We learn the latest developments when Ryno brings JH up to speed about his investigation into the life of Marius Voges. Apparently Marius Voges was living with his wife in Phillipolis making him a bigamist as he was also married to Matrone’s mother.
When Ryno tries to phone the wife, he learns that she had died 10 years ago and Marius had died about 20 years ago and the person giving him this information, is none other than Marius’ other daughter.
Ryno and JH try to think of reasons which could explain the situation but nothing makes sense except that Matrone’s dad was living a double life, he had two wives, two homes and two daughters.
How will Matrone react to the news that she has a sister and more importantly how will she cope knowing her father whom she thought the world of, had deceived her and her mother so?
Meanwhile Matrone is in her own world trying to figure out why Tannie Rademan is in town. Hilda tells the tannie that Matrone is under the impression Tannie Rademan wants to spy on her memoirs.
Tannie Rademan decides its time to teach Matrone a lesson once and for all and with Hilda’s help, the Tannie pretends that she’s just finished the last chapter of her autobiography and it’s ready to go to the publishers. She purposely leaves the envelope containing her memoirs in T&T knowing full well Matrone is watching her.
Naturally Matrone falls right into her trap and casually takes the envelope and goes to Oppiekoffie to read it. Imagine her horror when she reads the saucy novel of Tannie Rademan’s love life in her youth. When Mandla stumbles upon Matrone reading the novel and Matrone reads some bits out to him, he can barely contain himself and want to hear more. Matrone then realizes this is just the type of book that people love reading and the tannie will probably sell lots of copies.
Meanwhile Tannie Rademan boasts to Matrone that her authobiography is practically on the shelves making Matrone green with envy. She decides to spruce up her own memoirs by focusing on her romantic relationship with her departed husband, huh Matrone was married?
When Tannie Rademan sees Matrone in the Deli she offers to give her some of her prize winning jam but Matrone declines. The tannie then goes to the Deli’s kitchen to give Hilda her jam and she leaves her bag on the counter. A nosy Matrone goes to the tannie’s bag, checks out the jam and sees a romantic novel which she retrieves. She conveniently turns to a portion of the book and is surprised by what she reads, she quickly makes her exit from the Deli, novel in hand.
What will Matrone do when she realises Tannie Rademan has been playing her for a fool, is it revenge time again?
The truth behind Bee
When Themba told Bee aka Aggie that he really liked her, she went running out of the room and since then tried her very best to avoid him at all costs.
Themba is desperate to get a hold of Bee and even asks Marko about this cleaner but Marko clearly doesn’t know who Bee is.
Things have cooled down drastically between Alyce and Themba and she feels its time to rekindle their earlier flirtation. She uses her best technique on him but it falls flat when he tells her he can’t see her anymore. Alyce feels she’s lost her touch.
It just so happens that Aggie and Neville are having a meeting in Oppiekoffie when Themba steps in but before Aggie can see him, he hides away and watches from afar. It dawns on him that Bee is actually more than just a cleaner.
At the relaunch of the Boutique, Aggie is once again in full PA mode when Themba again spots her but turns away before she sees him.
The next day he tells Xander that he’s thinking of taking up a job offer in Cape Town because his life is a mess in Jozi. He tells him about seeing Bee with Xander’s father and that she did’nt come across as a cleaner which surprises Xander.
When Themba asks him to find out from his dad about his mystery lady, Xander declines saying things are strained between them and its about to get worse.
Themba now suspects that the love of his life is’nt just a cleaner but will he forgive Aggie once he hears the truth, I’m sure they can work it out but what will Alyce say when she learns that her biggest competition is a larger than life Aggie?
