I’ve been thinking….been doing a lot of that since I turned
GOLD. What was the point of Coca Cola Pop Stars, seeing that all the groups that it produced are no-where to be seen? Why is there no continuity, no nurturing of talent (or is it)? It seems that they choose funky (who are supposedly good-looking, have some-what of a personality, and potential to be scandalous) people as opposed to people who can sing, they release one album, do 3 or 4 concerts and
poof, they are gone!
I don't believe the sponsors, record labels, producers made any money out of these initiatives....
101 - This is the first group that won the competition. The only person I remember from the group is Pam Andrews, and she is the only one who has made something of the break she was given(hell, I heard she’s engaged to Paul Viv, is she?). Who were the other members of the group, better yet, where are they?
Adilah – Second group to win, personally I thought they would get far, but alas, they have also disappeared from the music scene. Thembisile seems to be the one who’s milking the opportunity she was given. I guess out of all the four, she was the only one who really wanted it. The others were just there for?
Ghetto Lingo – Hmmmmm, these boys! Hai I don’t have anything to say about them. I know they are misrepresenting ikasi lam – Katlehong. All I remember is that they were arrested at a gig in Bloemfontein, and they have been in and out of court…
Has Coca Cola given up on sponsoring this show? Why have these artists/groups not enjoyed the same fame as the Idols artists e.g. Heinz Winkler, Zama Jobe, Anker, Karin Kortje?
I really was just wondering, would be great to hear your thoughts!
