The SABC - Fair & Unbiased?

If you didn't know , well know you are duly being informed. The SABC is a wholly owned state enterprise making it one of the Governments many entities.

The main question at hand - does the SABC report fairly on all subject matter related to Current News?
Frankly no. The SABC is sometimes biased and neglects to report on stories which need to be recognised and exposed. One example of how the SABC reported on a biased standard is the Mlambo-Ncguka story, in which the Deputy President was effectively booed off stage. The SABC news delibrately cut out scenes showing how Mlambo-Ncguka had to leave the stage due to her unpopularity in the Pro-Zuma province.

We as the 'Joe' Public were submitted to subjective journalism and denied the right to fair and unprejudiced viewing.

Secondly, the canning of the Thabo Mbeki Unauthorised documentary. This documentary was produced by one of their own journalists, yet it was denied airtime; due to''inappropriate statements'' expressed. This is a clear effort by the Government to stifle any voices which donot praise it.

South African citizens deserve to make their own conclusions concerning the state of the countries affairs be it social, political, religious etc. This should not be decided upon by the Broadcaster. It is a sad fact that the public must continue to lap up such biased, and one sided news journalism.

This country certainly deserves much better.

"South African citizens deserve to make their own conclusions concerning the state of the countries affairs be it social, political, religious etc". Interesting article indeed but did you know that Americans know nothing about what the war has caused to Iraq - do you know that the British public still don't know that in South Africa or Africa... you find lions ko zoo or National Parks - they still believe "we" interact with wildlife on a daily basis... That is not because they choose to be "ignorant" but because that is what they get from BBC or CNN - such companies are owned by the government and if CNN was to air something that would make Bush unpopular... then the show gets canned.
Reality Check babe... this does not just happen in South Africa but everywhere else. If you owned a company would you let them print "nasty drunk pictures" of you in the Company Newsletter?

Even though the state owns the SABC I think it should draw the line when it comes to news reporting, coz sumtimes they just dont tell the stories on the news as well as they shoulld be, i.e TOO MUCH gatekeepking, resulting in a REALY out of control spiral of silence.

Obviously it will not get to the point of Zimbabwe - that stories like that of Mantu make it to the public.

I beg to differ Presha, Americans know fully well the damage the war in Iraq has caused to that country and themselves. They are footing the bill in the form of dollars and lives. The world has realised that Africa is a developing country due to the exposure it recieves through concerts, documentaries etc. The SABC must be fair and show the people both sides of every story.
