Episode Title: The Madeleine McCann story: live from England and Portugal

This week 3rd Degree takes you to the beautiful seaside village of Praia da Luz in the Portuguese Algarve. It’s the village that has now become infamous for the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. The pretty little 4-year-old British girl vanished from her holiday apartment on 3 May while her parents Kate and Gerry dined with friends at the nearby Tapas bar.

At first police investigated an abduction or a kidnapping. A British expat living nearby was made an official suspect, but never charged. The McCann’s launched an intensive media campaign and garnered massive support from the public. Four months later, in a remarkable twist of events, Madeleine’s parents were questioned for hours by Portuguese police. Overnight the McCanns went from being traumatised victims to official suspects.

The media frenzy imploded as allegations and accusations started flying about. Did Maddie’s parents accidentally kill her or was she abducted by a paedophile or maybe even a childless couple?

3rd Degree goes on location to the Portuguese village where it all happened, Praia da Luz and also to the sleepy English Village of Rothley in Leicestershire to find answers.

thank yu TVSA im really intrested in this MADELINE story and i hope
they can finally find him even if shes dead or alive at least they need a clousure
nt sure abt the parents being the suspects and the fact that MAD mom shes
was tired of too many kids yu know ppl they cumin up wt all these stories so thanx for lettin me know !!

Is there enough evidence to convict Kate and Gerry McCann?

Portuguese detectives have been briefing the media since the middle of August that there was compelling evidence from hair, bodily fluids and blood. But in the past ten days the briefings have been more doubtful. A police source told 24 Horas newspaper yesterday: “There is no element which can definitively state that the body of the little girl was transported in that vehicle”

What does the FSS say about its results?

The laboratory was reported yesterday to have sent an e-mail to Portuguese police complaining that its findings had been “widely misused”. The Mail on Sunday said that the FSS had criticised detectives for overplaying the results and leaking information – most of it inaccurate – to the Portuguese media
